US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionItems to bring to Kiev Interview
Just a thought on attending the interview, as it looks like you are pretty prepared with the documents. I made it a point to go, and was happy I did so. Lots of VJers here will tell you it isn't necessary, and don't spend the money. My wife wanted me to come to the interview, and it does provide more proof of relationship, or at least proof that we met recently in person, than any amount of documents. I believe that because I walked up to the window with her, they had no questions for her, other than to ask if she spoke English. I spent two weeks in Ukraine, ending with her collecting her visa and returning with me. More recently, Mapt, who posts here frequently, attended his fiance's interview and was asked to step back while they asked his fiance' a couple of easy questions. The visa was approved - no problem.

Others also adamantly say not to buy a ticket until her visa is in hand, and you do after all have two visas to worry about. I have heard of no legit K-1 petitions that were not approved in Kiev. Zero. The only only problems I HAVE read about involve criminal history, or raising hell in the embassy, or some such craziness.

The point I am trying to make here is that her interview may be easier with you there, for a variety of reasons, but she will probably be approved either way. The penny wise and pound foolosh statement you make is true for a different reason though. Culturally speaking, you get more mileage out of demonstrating you care so much that you would travel all the way to Ukraine to help her, than anything else you could do at this point. My wife still talks about how appreciative she is of the gentlemanly behavior I showed in making the effort to escort her back to America, even though she made the trip before.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI134?, I864? DS230?

DS 230 and I-864 are not used for K visas in Kiev.

Tom - I was under a little pressure to hurry off the computer before.

If it was needed, it would have been part of the packet sent to the beneficiary, right? So I guess I am wondering if she has the packet from the embassy, with the list. Vika doesn't have her copies handy, and I believe it was all in Russian anyway, and way over my head.

We had originals only where it seemed necessary or practical. My employment letter and I-134, were signed by my HR department or me. Tax returns etc. were obviously all copies. If Vika had to do a DS-156, I am sure it was signed in the original, but I don't remember seeing it. We went over the checklist by phone while I was online, then again in person - but it was a long time ago. Not much help - sorry.

Edited to say that Vika is sure that the DS 230 was either part of her packet, or given to her by the agency she used to help her work through some of the forms. I can't speak to its use, just that it does look familiar.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI134?, I864? DS230?
Vika and both looked at post, and it looks like you are mixing the initial forms for the I-129F with the forms needed for the interview. The DS-230, for example, we remember as part of the information Vika needed to prepare for her interview. She will get a packet and complete list for the interview (probably) by mail once the K-1 file reaches the US Embassy in Kiev.

I think the lack of responses is probably due to the amount of information in your post. You only need the forms and information for the I-129F checklist here I-129F checklist. Start there, and worry about the interview stuff after USCIS sends you the approval.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInformation Packet

This question has probably been answered before but I cant find it. Is it possible to complete the consulate information packet even before the NOA2 is done and forwarded to the consulate? We are wanting to get her physical, and police check, and pay the fees now so when they do get the visa packet at the consulate we can just call right away and schedule the interview rather than waiting until after the packet is finished and then calling to schedule the interview. Is there any rule against this or any expiration dates on these forms we need to be concerned about?

You can download everything in advance, forms, instructions, everything. Look for forms and proofs Here, you can get everything in Russian too. I sent all of it to Vika before we had a KEV number (indicating the embassy can track your file). You can not schedule anything until you get your KEV number if I recall. Vika did her physical a week or two before the interview, and had everything else done way before. Some of the forms and translations are going to take time.

The letter from your employer would not state that you are attaching paystubs and tax returns. Those aren't employer responsibilities.

Employer letter should address (as you've shown above) position, current status, rate, term of employment.

In Eastern Europe, women often do not wear engagement bands, so it wouldn't matter. Consular officers are usually aware of the custom in the country where they serve. You might want to post the question in the correct Regional Sub-forum to get the opinion of folks familiar with the embassy you will visit. Good Luck!

A certified copy should do. You can always get another certified from the court that issued the decree. In fact, i am pretty sure that I provided a copy of the certified copy. No problem. See item 12 in the K-1 guide here,

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDHL Tracking from NVC to US Embassy
QUOTE (HY020 @ Dec 2 2008, 04:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Does anyone know if NVC still use DHL to ship out K1 info to Foreign Embassy, that DHL is withdrawing all operations from US?

I got my NVC case number in the mail on Nov. 26th, saying my package will be shipped out to GuangZhou, China within a week. But when I did the above to find my DHL tracking #, I wasn't even able to find a single package going to CHINA. You would think there should be few packages going to CHINA, but I see none. So, I wonder if NVC is using a different carrier to ship to China?

Looks like pushbrk would know about China specifically. If he doesn't wiegh in soon, send him a pm.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDHL Tracking from NVC to US Embassy
QUOTE (pushbrk @ Nov 21 2008, 10:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This process will give you information about packages going from NVC to an Embassy or Consulate abroad but there is no possible way to know which package contains a specific case file.

An NVC operator will tell you your package was sent on a certain date but all they really know is that it was approved for forwarding on that day. They have no idea or tracking information as to when the mail room actually shipped the package with your case file.

Example. I tracked my package knowing it would sit in customs for weeks like everybody elses. (Guangzhou lets them sit in the customs warehouse until they are ready to actuall work the cases.) I followed a week's worth of packages and was expecting to wait another three weeks for delivery when my wife showed me her P3 on the webcam. I'll tell you I had the tracking process down and thought I was tracking every package that could possibly be mine but was happily dead wrong.

All that said, there are some low volume Consulates that don't get but a package every week or so. For those, the tracking can be pretty reliable as long as you look at at least a couple possibilities.

Thanks pushbrk - we are at that stage now, and I was trying to figure out how to verify the exact shipment. NVC says our file was sent out the 12th of November, but couldn't be any more specific. Kiev is not what you would call a low volume operation, so it looks like we will just have to sit tight. The call center told my SO that it could take TWO MONTHS to get the file iin the system. It looks like the VJ average is a couple of weeks though.

I would think something casual, but modest and conservative (whatever that is for that country). Not an expert on fashion, but it seems reasonable that you want the interviewer's mind on your documents and sincerity, and totally focused positively on the case.

So I know it should be a 13 digit number, starting with 3 alphabetic characters....well I do not have alphabetic ones on the check, but I have a few 10 digit numbers...does anybody know what Texas service center's alphabetic letters are? And what your case number starts with? I will give me clue...

I was surprised too, but I think several of us were just misunderstanding each other. What I meant was that the most recent information seems to me the most relevant. I read posts here all the time about folks providing volumes of data that isn't really needed, and was suggesting that a thorough history probably would be overkill.

Actually, my sister in law filed for her. From what I hear, my mother in law has her 10 year green card already. It helps when both children are US citizens. My wife's sister has already been in the US over 6 years. My mother in law has been here 15 months.

Don't know the best place to post this so I am putting it here since we have reached the last step.

My wife was naturalized back in July.

Nice to know Visa Journey was there every step of the way.

My wifes mother arrived in August, her brother is the only relative left in Ukraine. I don't know if we will need any more visas for awhile. Maybe if her brother decides to come for a visit or to work.

My stepson is over 18, so if he wants to become a citizen it is really his choice. I hope this will happen. If he returns to Ukraine he may be forced to enter the military.

Thanks for the help.

US Citizenship General DiscussionNaturalization - Currently in 90 Day Window to Remove Conditions

Hi, the three years start when you became a permanent resident, not since conditions removed. Your GC should have a date on it and it should say "Resident Since" - this is the date you need. Unfortunately, you also need to pay the fee of $545 ($465 plus $80 biometric service fee). Based on a marriage to a USC, you can apply after 3 years minus 90 days. First, you need to apply I-751 Removal of Conditions. You can find the form and instructions at this website http://www.uscis.gov/i-751

Good luck!

Agree on the date, assuming I undestood the question, but can't speak to the fee at all.

You MUST meet the requirements for the affidavit of support. There is no "we are working on it" or we will have it soon. If you use assets they must be 5x the income required. You can also use a combination of assets and income. There is really no way around this requirement.

If you do not meet the requirements the visa will be denied.

You are in administrative processing. No one knows how long it will take, could be one week could be one year. The good news is that unless something really bad comes up the visa is approved. So all you have to do now is wait. When the AP is complete they will call and request the passport (if they do not already have it).

The only problems you may run into is if the AP takes too long some of the paperwork may expire such as the medical and/or affidavit of support both of which are only good for one year.

Just hang in there, this is the worst part and the not knowing how long it will take makes it even worse. But remind yourself once it is done he will get his visa (unless he really is a bad guy).

If he is in name check AP, and not in AP for missing documents, then there is nothing you can do but wait. Name check AP takes however long it takes and cannot be rushed. If it makes you feel better call DOS about once a week and check on the case.
Other than this I suggest you find a hobby and just wait it out, I know it is tough but there is nothing that can be done.

Best thing I can say is visit the website for the Ankara embassy. They list very specifically what you need to submit prior to the interview and what to bring with you. Be prepared for AP it is pretty standard.
Also we never received a packet from them we just downloaded everything from the website. His interview "letter" was an email, he never received a letter.
