CanadaVisiting the US while Visa pending
Hello,

I know there is a lot of advice on here that says it is not worth travelling to the US while applying for a Visa. But, there also seems to be a lot of people who do it frequently, and without trouble.

My Visa application has been submitted, and I am now in the stages of waiting for an interview (up to 6 month wait).

Does anyone have any experience going through the Windsor/Detroit border while their visa is being processed?

Does anyone have any tips on what I should do to prove that I intend to return to Canada?

Realistically, what would happen to my visa if I was denied entry? I assume that since my Visa has been processed, I would simply discuss the details of any denials during my interview. I would think that a denial based on my pending visa would not be cause to deny my visa.

Any thoughts?

I certainly wouldn't consider going, though the circumstances at this time warrent it.

Thanks!!

CanadaPassport Photo Stamp
Hey all...

Two of my 5 passport photos required for Packet 3 were stamped by the camera shop that took them. It has the name of the camera shop, the address and the date. It also has a place for me to put my name, as well as the name of a guarantor.

Is this okay? Should any of them be stamped or should all of them be stamped?

thanks Emancipation. Knowing your doctor left things off your medical makes me feel better. I didn't know if they have an obligation to report absolutely everything we tell them. That's why I'm nervous about him changing his mind and deciding to include what I told him.

ok trailmix, i took your advice and the doctor is going to send me a duplicate that i can review. So now I only have to stress till Monday... and then deal with it then if he did write it down. good lord...

CanadaStressing over medical!!
ok, thanks guys. My rational side tells me not to worry about it. It didn't even concern me after my medical until last night.

The question I answered yes to was a medical related question, not a drug use question. Something that I no longer have, but wanted to answer honestly about. I know, and my doctor knew, it was nothing to be concerned with... I guess I just worry that if he decided to put it on my medical, the people at the consulate will not know that it is nothing to worry about.

I know there is nothing I can do now. I might call the doctor's to see if I can have an extra copy of the medical sent to me. It makes me feel better to know that if the consulate does have any concerns about the medical, that they may call the doctor directly. I think I've seen other people post the same experience, about having the consulate call the doctor to help clear something up.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that if he says he is going to leave it out, that he does. I just have this feeling that he may have added it anyways, not realizing that it could be taken very seriously.

CanadaStressing over medical!!
So I had my medical yesterday, and everything went well, except for one part. There were a series of 5 questions that the doctor asked... things like... "Have you ever smoked regularly?", "Any history of mental disorders?", "Any history of drug or alcohol abuse?", etc.

Anyways, on one of the questions, I answered yes. The doctor than asked me a couple questions and told me that it was no big deal. He said he would leave it off the report, because he didn't think it was the kind of thing that the consulate was concerned about.

Now I'm freaking about over it!! What if he did write it down? I know that it is no big deal, but the people at the consulate may not know that.

Will the visa be automatically denied if they see that "yes" was answered to any of those questions?

Can you tell this process is starting to takes it's toll on me??

CanadaDirections to Montreal Consulate
So I've booked a Bed and Breakfast that is about a 20min walk away from the Consulate. While I don't mind walking, does anyone know if parking at the Montreal Consulate is available, in case it is raining?

CanadaDirections to Montreal Consulate
Hey folks,

I have been trying to use MapQuest and Rand-McNally to get directions from my home in Ontario to the Consulate in Montreal. It appears that the Consulate doesn't like that, because I can't seem to do a search for their exact address. I can find directions to get to Montreal, but I don't know where I am going once I get there.

Does anyone have any suggestions where else I can look to get directions?

I know the embassy webpage has a map on there, but it is not very good.

Also, I know there are a few suggestions on places to stay that are close to the Consulate. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'll be going with my mom, and we would like to stay somewhere nice where we can share a room, that is hopefully within walking distance.

Thanks!!

CanadaWhat Montreal said about the X-ray
Yes, because, depending on the results of your medical, we may need your X-rays.

Thank you

Hello,

Am I required to bring my x-ray to my K-1 interview?

* * *

I just thought I would share this. I know a lot of people who have had their interviews say it's ok not to bring your x-ray... but maybe it's a good idea to at least bring to Montreal and leave in your hotel room. If the Consulate needs to see it, you can always go back and get it.

CanadaWhat exactly is inside the medical anyways?
wow Misa, the copy of the medical documents the doctor's use are awesome. Where do you find these things?! haha

Adding my two cents here...

I had my medical completed by Dr. Al Laity in London, ON. His staff and himself were very efficient. He took about 5 minutes to ask me some questions and evaluate me. I did answer yes to one of the questions, and he told me it was no big deal and said he would leave it off.

Anyways, my paranoia kicked in later that day, and I called back to ask for a copy of the medical. The receptionist said no problem, and that she would send it with my sealed medical by fedex which I had paid extra for. No extra charge for the duplicate copy of medical though.

I'll be picking up my package today.

All in all, great service, fast and friendly. X-ray technician is in the same building, but takes 1 hr to get x-ray.

Hello,

I am starting to get bogged down with copy after copy of every document I am bringing to the interview.

Can someone please remind me if I am required to photocopy every page of my passport for the K1-Visa interview?

Thanks!

CanadaMedical Question
thanks everyone smile.gif

Allie, thanks for sharing your experience. After my medical, the panel physician told me that I was not required to come back, nor was I required to get any follow up tests done for the visa. He sent me a letter stating that he recommended I see my own doctor (for peace of mind), but that the abnormality on the chest x-ray should not delay my visa application. Sooo... fingers crossed, that is one less thing to worry about.

5 days to interveiw!!!

CanadaMedical Question
Hey guys,

As some of you know, I am currently waiting the results of my CT scan, that I have had to complete as a follow up to the us medical (due to an abnormality on my chest x-ray... see link below for saga)

http://www.visajourn...p;#entry1276641

Anyways, I was just reading over the copy of the medical report, and on the sheet called "Chest X-Ray and Classification Medical, Worksheet One", under section 3, the panel physician checked off boxes...

"No, applicant has no signs or symptoms of TB and:" "OTHER X-ray finding suggest follow-up needed after arrival"

Then, under section 5, it says...

"Follow-up Needed after arrival", check in the box "Yes, Not TB condition".

Does "follow-up after arrival" indicate my arrival into the States????

Does anyone know??

Congratulations on your approval!! I'm sorry that it was a bit stressful, but at least it's over, and with great results!!

Now what is this about missing a piece of paper with a bar code? I had sent that back when I did packet 3, so am I also expected to have a copy (or 2) with me when I go for my interview?

*UPDATE*

I just spoke to a nurse at my doctors office, and she said that my cat scan results were "fine". I don't know the details... I'll be going tomorrow morning to pick up a copy of the report, but all seems to be well!!!!

I am so freakin happy and relieved!! I'll be sure to give more scoop when I get it.

I'm leaving tomorrow night for Montreal.

finally, a bit of good news!!

I managed to talk to the radiologist directly, and explain my situation. When I explained that I will also be calling every day to check on cancellations (cause they don't do waitlists), an appointment magically opened up this Friday.

Shew!! That should give them plenty of time to get the results back to my doctor to review before my interview smile.gif

SWEET MOTHER!!!

Ok, doctor called me back, and the best they can do is Nov. 6th. That gives them 24hrs to review the scan and send a report to my doctor before I leave town for Montreal.

I wonder if my doctor wil fax the results to me at the bed and breakfast in Montreal if I can't get them sooner... hmmm

It's funny, I'm not as overly concerned with the "pulmonary nodule" being something serious. It could be anything. A scar, an infection, a benign tumor.

I guess I just hope to get my visa approved on Nov. 9th, and than if it turns out I need expensive treatment, I can stay in Canada for 6 more months, but knowing that my visa is in hand for me to pack up whenever I wish.

Anyways, I just called my doctor again, asking if my appointment has been updated. The nurse spoke to me like I was a little girl, and told me that my doctor was aware, and that he would be calling the cat scan place himself, and that I just needed to be patient. Patience is not my strong point.

CanadaGot copy of medical back yesterday...
Under Class B Medical Conditions, he checked off "Other" and wrote "Possible pulmonary nodule. Most likely a shadow. Follow up x-ray recommended."

On the X-ray sheet, he did note that I had no signs of TB, active or non-active, but said "Other findings" and wrote the same thing as above.

i don't think i have yet caught my breath yet...

I agree Flames, if everything else is in order, I don't expect they will deny me, but delay me till I get a clean bill of health. At this point though, that is enough to cause me to have an anxiety attack. I have given notice to my landlord, and we have a wedding planned for Dec. 22nd. Not getting my visa when expected will be a nightmare (queue dramatic soap opera music).

Now, while I fully expect them to delay me... what I don't understand is why.

If I don't have a communicable disease, couldn't I realistically get treated in the States (if I wanted to?).

Now, this is not meant to be a debate on Canadian vs US Healthcare, and how I am better off getting treated here for free (I already know that hehe), I am just questioning the motives of the consulate. Why do they care where I get treated? I could have a million things wrong with me that weren't captured by the 5 minute medical and they wouldn't even know about it.

Also, the panel physician wrote on my medical that it was "recommended" I do a follow up x-ray with my own doctor. He never said it was "required". Do you think this is helpful?

I'm blabbering, I know. It happens when I panic...

oh, you guys are very sweet. I am very lucky to have your prayers.

When I met with my doctor yesterday, he told me to hang tight till Wednesday. If I don't have an appointment by then, I can call him, and he'll call the hospital on my behalf. I made sure to let him know that if I don't have a clean bill of health for my interview, I may not get a visa, which means no wedding. He's knows the kind of pressure I'm under haha.
