Hey Laura ... yes, it does make me feel a little bit better. My docs are with the Embassy - no doubt about that. DOS has had them on their system since the 26th of March. I just posted re an email I sent to the Embassy on Tuesday, so hopefully I'll hear something soon.

I'm not looking for anything concrete from them ... I'm just needing a little bit of reassurance that our case is being looked at actively ... smile.gif

Hope the time flies for you .. congrats again!

Moira x

I'm sure you've already said this, so I am sorry for asking again but could you confirm with DOS at all if the embassy has everything needed to schedule the interview? Did they say you are eligible for the interview, like they did to Bob? If they didn't, I don't think this is a problem, because they never said that to me at all...but it would be interesting to know. Hopefully in their response to you they tell you what the issue is. I'm assuming you send in all the forms, and the checklist? Did you make sure to check all of the appropriate documents on the checklist?

The only 'explanation' I ever got was London is a very busy station and things move slow. I recall seeing some charts somewhere on VJ that London was like teh 3rd busiest behind the Philippines and Moscow.

Just my $.02 worth,
Bob

Bob

The charts on here that show how many days it took from consulate received to interview consistently show London as one of the slower ones...but, I am not sure how entirely accurate it is because one day, it'll say 81 days, the next 50..etc...I think the point is there is SO much variation, but it does seem you get through faster if your travel/wedding dates are sooner.

Hi again Laura ...

Every time I called the DOS they said that the Embassy was still processing my application and that it hadn't been "qualified" for interview yet. I was assuming that comment meant that I wasn't eligible yet?

I checked and double checked everything ... then triple and quadruple checked it!! Everything they asked for was in the package that I sent back to them ... I even got my Mum to go over everything with me to make sure I hadn't filled in anything incorrectly or missed anything out ...

I also put a cover note in saying that I would be travelling from Scotland and that I would schedule my medical for the day before my interview so that I could get everything done in the one visit ...

Oh well, as my old granny used to say - "what's for you .. won't go by you" - I just need to be more patient ... smile.gif

Moira x

Hopefully you will get a reply to your email soon and figure out what is going on! It does seem odd. Is it possible to go into AP before the interview? I don't think I have heard of this. But anyway, if that's what it was I am sure DOS would know.

Yeah smile.gif I am so excited! But, now he's gonna be nervous until then haha. I am just so happy to finally have a definitive date! Hopefully you will get your interview a little earlier...like July or something? That way Nik has awhile between Interview and POE.

Has anyone had an interview at 8:30? What time do you suggest getting to the embassy? I need to start preparing him now...I am hoping the more prepared he is, the less nervous he will be.

I'm holding off on celebrating just yet. I kind a sneaking suspicion that this might be a mistake on the May 6th because it falls on a saturday. I think we need to wait until he gets his official letter. We will also be filing the I-601 waiver so we have many more months to wait after then interview. We are thinking we should hear something about August/September (fingers crossed) and then he will take a month or so to sell his car and get things situated before he moves over. At least we are making progress....

Oh and thanks for adding us to the timeline. We filed for a K-1 visa.

Best wishes to everyone

 Well after a long day of work, I got home late last night. I checked my email and low and behold there was a note from London. We have our interview date on May 6th. I requested May due to our schedule. I guess I haven't paid attention but I didn't know they did interviews on Saturday. I guess I assumed they were closed on the weekends like all other government offices. Has anyone else had their interview on a Saturday? I guess I'm paranoid that this is a mistake..... lol

I wouldn't worry about them saying they haven't received your packet. I have been emailing them the past few days. The first statement in the email said that they had recieved our packet. then they ask me a few questions (referring to things on our paperwork so i know they have it) and said they would advise me on receipt of my answer. When I email them back with the answers to their questions the very next day I got the "canned" response saying they have not recieved out packet. blah blah blah.

I think they have several people who answer the emails. Some are helpful and others just send out the standard responses.

Good luck,

Is there a site to register on or do you automatically get updates if you email them? Just curious

The embassy will probably try and accommodate the date that you put for when you aim to leave.

Do you think its reasonable that if I recieved NOA2 a few days ago, my fiance would be able to get the interview and leave by June? Or is that unlikely?
laura819FemaleUnited Kingdom2009-03-25 08:49:00
United KingdomWedding Date/Travel Date
On the checklist, as most of you know I am sure, it gives a place for wedding date and travel date. We are planning to get married Aug 15. However, if possible at all, my college graduation is June 13, and I really wanted him to be over for that. So if we put the wedding date as August 15, but put a travel date in June, would they give him a June interview? Or do they go strictly by wedding date, especially since that is still over 4 months away? Is it possible we could get an earlier interview date?

I am SO sorry for all these questions, I am just trying to get all of my information straight!

Although the London Embassy typically does not ask for things like proof of engagement and ongoing relationship, you should still bring them with you, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry, because occasionally, they do ask for those things.

Absolutely. People should never just dismiss it because, as a rule, it is not asked for. wink.gif

Only send DS forms and the checklist back. They won't ask to see proof of engagement or relationship in London, but you can take it to the interview if it makes you feel better.

The reason I ask is because at the bottom of the form, it lists various things to send with the form, and that's one of the things. So do we just disregard that?

United KingdomTax Return Question
Thanks to both of you! I am actually going to be submitting copies of the actual returns...my dad files all of our returns and all of that, and he is SUPER organized and copies everything he sends in...making my life easier right now!!

mr and mrs - sorry for taking your comment the wrong way! people on VJ lately have been a bit (and thats an understatement) jumpy/quick to criticize people, so I guess I have gotten used to that! Believe me, I spend far too much time on here reading through posts, trying to prepare!

To add to the fact that the embassy website is kind of out of date, not only are my parents super organized, but extreme overachievers, and are making this co-sponsoring thing really difficult. They have TONS of assets, etc, and are being really insistent about including EVERYTHING on the i-134, so I am going to be waiting awhile for them to get everything together (income alone is more than enough, which I told them, but...). I'm being way over achieving about the rest of the things I am sending to my fiance for the interview, but the I-134 stuff seems like its going to be so difficult to get in the first place...I just want to get what I need and be done!

im guilty of frivolous posting at times. : )

Sorry sad.gif When I've seen questions about notarization for the tax things, I have only seen questions regarding notarization of the i-134, not the tax returns! And I didn't know that since copies are accepted, it means you don't have to get them notarized..sorry sad.gif

NO, the I-134 is no longer required to be notorized . The reason is because the I-134 is unconstitutional to Us american citizens , only for the reason its filled over seas . And anything you put on the I-134 they cant hold you too that , so they cant attack your income , if your fiancee becomes a public charge while in the united states . When you have a document notorized , you agree that all the information you supply is true and correct to the best of your knowledge and belief . And if you make any false statements with in the document , you can be charged for fraud ( that can be a fine of thousands of dollars and decades in prision ). The I-134 is very old , and so much out of date , and recently the legislation has deemed the I-134 as unconstitional . You can do a search like in altavista , this is where i found this information . But on the other hand the i-864 has to be notorized , and if you knowingly make any false statements on the i-864 , it will be held against you . And the united states federal government will do what ever they want too , to make you pay for commiting fraud against the usa government .

Yes I know the i-134 does not need to be notarized, also, the reason I asked this question in the first place is because on the London Embassy website, it DOES say the tax returns need to be notarized. However, no where on this forum have I seen that, so I wanted to confirm it.

United KingdomBlending US and UK wedding traditions
QUOTE (inhopeofglory @ Apr 8 2009, 06:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi,

My fiancée and I are currently making wedding plans, having got engaged on 19th March and filed for a K-1 on the 28th. I'm English (actually half-Chinese, half-English, but born and raised in England), my fiancée is American. We're both committed Christians.

I'd love to hear from any here who are/were in my situation, and are having/had a blended US/UK wedding. I'm looking for some good websites on the differences between US and UK wedding traditions, as we're going to get married in the US but my immediate family and an as yet unknown number of British relatives/friends will be joining us for the wedding. So far a couple of primary ones are the lack of congregational singing (i.e. hymns) in US weddings, even Christian ones, and the common lack of speeches by the father of the bride, groom, best man etc. Does anyone know of any others? How did you "blend" the traditions from each country, and the expectations from people on each side?

Thanks!

Regards, Dominic

I just though this was cool..we got engaged on March 19th too...but 2008!

We put a wedding date of July 11, but for travel date we put "immediately upon receipt of visa" or something like that. We're starting to regret not just making up some day to travel! Jon's calling the embassy tomorrow to see whats really going on.

That might be why then! We put travel date of June 9 and our interview is May 19. So they might be waiting to give you a late June interview. Sven wants to be here for my college graduation on June 13, so that's why we asked for something so far ahead of our wedding! We wouldn't have done it without what we felt was a good reason. But I think if you call them and explain you don't want to be arriving right before the wedding, they will probably work with you.

I sent off my packet 3 what seems like eons ago(5 weeks) and still no interview date set. Anyway we have been contacting the DOS pretty much everyday in the hopes that they have scheduled us one.....Alas NO! We do know that they have all our documents-DS230, DS156, DS156k and DS157, but the DOS can't tell and don't seem to even know(about such forms!) if they received our IV-15 form(the check list for the interview). Now this stresses me out because if they've misplaced that or lost it, then they won't start processing till they receive it. I'm sure they probably wouldn't even bother checking with me either! So my question is, who do I call to verify that they have it? Is calling the extortionate Embassy line the only option?

Thanks for any replies to my probable paranoid beliefs, but I've seen a few number of blunders that the Embassy and USCIS are responsible for.....I just want to get this done ASAP.

Cheers Jon.

DOS was able to confirm for me that the Embassy had received Packet 3. However, I think it was only once it was reviewed. I'd call the Embassy, personally..Especially since its been 5 weeks..

What did you put for a travel/wedding date? That could be the reason as well..

You can try emailing and hope that they email something back that you can print out if it will help your peace of mind.

But didn't she have a print off from the Embassy? You see I afraid they won't respond to the email in time. What I want to know is, if I have neither of those things, will I still be admitted? They know I'm coming so logic says I should be fine....but then again this is Government we're dealing with!

Yes both MARM and mrs_sdp had printouts from the Embassy. How far do you live from the Embassy? Would it be possible to go and give it a try even if you do not have P4 or an email?

Thanks again.

The Sams'.

You listen to the recorded message, and i think the last option is the one you pick, and then you listen to the next menu, which says thats its the last automated thing you have to listen to before speaking with a real person. listen to ALL the options, and at the very very end, there's one about speaking to a visa officer, or something like that. meaning you get to talk to a real person. I don't remember the numbers right now, but I definitely called DOS and got info from them a LOT!

United Kingdomphoning DOS for interview date
QUOTE (John & Mary @ Jun 5 2009, 10:51 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I called DOS yesterday and they gave me our interview date (June 23)! We sent back our Packet 3 on May 18, and we specified that our travel date was July 15 and our wedding date was August 14. We are elated.

Side note: your wedding is one day before mine!

United Kingdomphoning DOS for interview date

I'm in the same boat here and have a similar question. We sent packet 3 back to the embassy on May 26th, and included a cover letter requesting an interview within a specific 2 week window, beginning June 29th. Today I called DOS, and they said that packet 3 had been received by the embassy (today), but no interview date has been assigned. Is it normal for there to be a delay in receiving packet 3 and assigning an interview date? Does anyone know how long I can expect to wait? Thanks much.

I had at least a few days from them getting my Packet to issuing a date, and mine was fast, or so I've been told...

Thanks Laura! That de-mystifies the process a bit! smile.gif

No problem! Hopefully they will be able to tell you more information. I never tried called NVC after they said my petition had left. I just waited until after we sent back Packet 3, and called DOS. They will probably be able to atleast tell you if they recieved it or not. But depending on the travel/wedding date that you put down, that could affect the interview date you get.

When people say that they called DOS about an interview date, do they mean that they called the same NVC number? I called them yesterday to inquire about whether or not our documents had been entered into the system and whether or not we'd been assigned an interview date, and the operator told me that they can't see that information and all they could tell me was what day the embassy had received our petition.

I know we are on the short side of getting impatient, but I've come to London to wait with John until the interview, and we'd both like to get back to the US as soon as we can so we can get this wedding rolling! Not to mention that we'd like to do a few little short tourist-y trips in Europe during the wait, but we can't plan anything because we don't want to leave the UK until we know for sure what the interview date is. It's infuriating!

No, its not the NVC. The DOS number is 202-663-1225
