I was probably so excited that I made so many written mistakes when I posted (promise I didn't start drinking yet)  I was denied at the same POE as you, I hope I don't get the same officer and I hope he doesn't recognize me  .....Thanks again, I paid the extortion fee

Glad you paid the fee

I wonder if we got the same officer?  :huh2:  Do you happen to know his name? I still have all the paperwork with their names

You should be putting this too in your wiki because many people are asking about mailing the IV package with AOS coversheet.

Oh, good point   I'll go add that bit as well, since I hadn't included that point in the wiki.

Edit: Done!

A thought about really fast DS-261 approvals (like the example just mentioned above): I heard a long time ago that for USCIS, when they're training someone new, they'll take a file out (typically a recent one) and go over that one with the new person (and thus reviewing that case much faster than the usual wait times). So, the same thing might be happening with those really fast DS-261 approvals.

Note to Saylin: Your spreadsheet can have an entry for what the checklist was for. It will be immensely helpful and reduce potential checklists, please consider my request.

That would be waaaay too complicated, and make the spreadsheet a mile long trying to explain each checklist. I suppose I could always add a note in each box (so when you hover over the checklist box, it'll pop up), but then I'd have to rely on people actually giving me a proper answer as to why they got a checklist. And if dates are any indication, it's just going to give me more of a headache than I already have.

Thanks for reminding me, I will do pay Elis now    My POE will be Montreal airport, I have they don't cause me any problems.  Thanks, you are an angel!  (F)  :luv:  (L)

Go, go, go :P

Have fun with the Montreal airport ;) That's where I was first denied  But I was a noob back then, so they had every reason to deny me. Funny enough, last summer when I went to Canada and was returning to the US, I got the same officer that had denied me back in 2010. He recognized me too  I had an expired green card at the time (was in the process of ROC, of course!), so there was some extra steps he needed to do. But otherwise, a much nicer experience than the first time with him!  :jest:

I understand there are thousands of applications being received at the NVC but it makes it sound like there are just a handful of people working there. There may be thousands of one page forms that need to be accepted, but how long does that honestly take? 60 days? I don't think so.

No, it doesn't take 60 days to review. But as I said, it does take time to just get to the form itself. The current average, based on the data on my new spreadsheet, is 29 calendar days. And although it may be just one page, I'm sure that after they review it, they have to press a few buttons to get the IV bill invoiced. It's not like it takes two seconds.

And I think some people are failing to realize just how many applications NVC is currently handling. It's not just 1000 or 2000. It's hundreds of thousands of cases. And with the influx of adjudicated cases from USCIS, the number just keeps on growing each week. Obviously, they're not all at the same spot at NVC, so not every single case currently at NVC is submitting the DS-261, but there's still a big chunk doing that. And I don't know if NVC has people specifically that just review DS-261s all day, or if each person works on different tasks throughout the day. So, you need to keep all this in mind.

Now, by no means am I justifying the "rightness" of it all. Obviously, there's better ways to implement all of this and have shorter review times. But, I'm just trying to explain the current process and how it all works.

Thank you. It just KILLS me that there is no rhyme or reason at the NVC. How can they justify taking this long to "accept" an ONLINE form that was maybe 1 page long? Above that, how can they justify putting some cases through faster than others? So tired of this...

I can't justify the reason why some DS-261s are processed faster than others, but as to the first bit about it taking them that long to accept a one page form online. Remember, it's not the length of the form or the complexity to review it, it's because there's THOUSANDS of DS-261s in line to be reviewed and only so many people to review them, so it's naturally going to take them awhile to get to each one.

Hi guys, I have question, I looked through NVCs wiki but I couldn't find an answer specific to my situation.

for beneficiary... on form I-864... Should I put "maiden name" or Married name? in part 2?  on DS-261 I put same info as passport... and since visa will be issued (I assume) under same name as passport. Should I put maiden name aswell in that form?

I'm anxious about that...I reaaally don't want to get checklisted for anything at all! already got an RFE back in USCIS stage and i want to avoid further delays.

Thanks for the help! :)

Put whatever is the beneficiary's current last name. If that's their maiden name, put that. If it's their married name, put that.

Regardless, whatever name is in the passport is what the visa will be printed with (and thus the green card after).

Hi Saylin, CR1 got approved yesterday.  Thanks for your stickies/wikis!

Woohoo, congrats!!!  :joy:  :joy:

Thank you, Saylin, for including the link! I will have a copy ready by interview time, just in case. Infopass is scheduled for 08/22.

Has anyone included original naturalization certificate in the IV packet as part of the petitioners documents?

Although the two required petitioner documents for an IR-5 visa is their birth certificate and marriage certificates, if the petitioner in your case is a naturalized US citizen, it may be a good idea to include the Naturalization certificate as well. But not the original, include a certified copy instead. Instructions here on how to obtain one: http://www.uscis.gov...-naturalization If the petitioner is going to the interview as well, I'd suggest they bring their original with them. If not, I'd suggest getting two certified copies and having the beneficiary bringing the second copy with them to the interview, just in case.

NEED HELP & ADVICE

I didn't know that there was such a thing called Visa Journey. I am at the near end of acquiring my GC.

So the embassy reviews from Mumbai, India ask for the petitioner & benefitaries mother's maiden name. My husband accidentally wrote down their current last names which are different from maiden names. Luckily he had the copies which he had initially submitted to USCIS.

So my question is should we submit a new G 325 A form for both of us and type up a letter explaining the confusion or would it cause more problems to our case. Because we do not want to falsify or misinterpret any information.

If some of you can comment on it that will be great because my interview is next week.

Just mention it at the interview if they bring it up. No big deal.

Saylin, called again Gabriela said IV scanned July 24Th and AOS scanned June 25Th. 37.gif

Awesome. I'll add you on the spreadsheet later tonight once I get home from work.

What do you guys think is faster? EP processing or snail mail?

Moot point in your case as Australia is not eligible for EP. Snail mail is your only option.

Not to mention folks, NVC would still have to review the DS-260, which is only available AFTER the IV bill is paid. So, you're really not saving any time...

If I were you, I'd wait to send the IV package with the appropriate cover sheet at the right time. Because not only are you not saving much time, but there's also a chance NVC will lose your originals/certified copies. And from what I've seen here, for some of you, that can mean months to get another set.

I have a similar question. My son is USC, so i put "no" for him.

My daughter is born Canadian immigrating with me, but she has a separate petition. SHould i write "yes" for her in my DS-260 and "yes" for my in her DS260?

If you're the USC, you're not immigrating to the US, you're merely moving back. Big difference.

AOS question for people with Mumbai consulate experience.

I have received checklist from NVC regarding AOS. It says following.

[...]

My income is below poverty line. But I have more than enough assets in checking account to cover five times the difference between poverty line and yearly income. I did not get co-sponsor because according to I 864 instructions I met income requirement by adding my assets to my annual income. I called NVC and they told me that assets are not taken into account at NVC stage and consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of your interview. Lady at NVC told me to check Mumbai consulate practice on how they handle assets to meet the minimum income requirement.

Is there any one here with similar situation at Mumbai consulate? Did consular officer consider your assets?   Please share your experience.

Thank you in advance.

It'd be best if you asked this country-specific question in the regional forums as you'll likely get better responses there.

Awww, glad to hear! That's the reason why I put the wiki together, to help people out. I'm happy at least SOME people have used it!

That is the information he gave me and I don't think they have scanned the IV in yet but I'll call and ask.  Ty sweet heart. :)   character031.gif

Just call up today and ask specifically:

'When was my AOS package scanned in?' (should be close to the date it was delivered)

'When was my IV package scanned in?' (should be close to the date it was delivered)

Depending when the IV package was delivered, it should have been scanned already as it only takes a few days to scan in.

It's really annoying just received an e-mail from NVC with a Check List. I called, nice guy didn't catch his name since I was nervous and rarely call.  I asked him what's this, he said we have your IV documents, DUH, they are in review.  I asked, you mean they scanned them or they are actually being looked at, he said being looked at.  I said I thought if I received a false check list it's because they were accepted, he said no.   Me confused but happy they are looking at them, hope they aren't just looking at the folder sitting on their desk.  Many ways of interpreting things. :D
