Hi Saylin
I need an urgent help from you or any VJers with through similar experience.
Our case is currently at NVC and we are enrolled in Electronics Processing, recently I have scanned and sent all original DS 230 package documents, now we got RFE asking for ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, but our confusion is We have already sent the original one we got form Registrar office in Indian where our marriage took place.

Our marriage was performed by local priest, who issued a certificate, which is in our native language. We have certified translation of that certificate issued by registrar office, which I have sent already but We did not send the one issued by the local priest.

When NVC ask for Original Marriage Certificate, do they mean they need the one issued by Local Priest as well?
Any help from somebody with similar experience would be much helpful

Chman_Zinga

Hmm, I'm not sure. I'd call an operator up asap on Monday. Explain what you sent in and ask what they want from you.

If you haven't looked yet, here's the page for India and their certificates: http://travel.state....1.html?cid=3582 Scroll down to Marriage Certificates. Make sure you have what's listed.

Definitely call an operator on Monday though.

Hey thanks again for your quick response,
No I never got any AOS package like the one I got recently for IV

Chman_zinga

Yeah, I never got an AOS package either although I thought we were supposed to receive one. Maybe they're just incredibly slow to send it out Posted Image

Hi Saylin

Recently I received an email from NVC with an attachment called " p3u agent universal.pdf" which basically says that I have paid all my fees and with in attachment there is Cover Sheet with Bard code and say attach it with your IV form DS-230.

But don't we have to fill up only DS-260, which I already did, and I have also emailed the civil documents with Cover Sheet generated once your fee status shows paid.

Do we have to send DS-230 as well, on top of filling DS -260 online or not?
Do you have to send the copy of DS-260 with your civil documents? (I sent only documents, Fee cover Sheet and Cover Letter)

I am all confused; yours or any one with similar case help is much appreciated

Chman_Zinga

NVC sends out the same packages to everyone, whether doing online forms or not, so don't fret. Hopefully NVC will update their systems one of these days and not send out the DS-230 package to Canadians. Just disregard that package you got as it doesn't concern us.

You can relax as you're all done ;)

By the way, did you ever get an AOS package from NVC? Like with instructions and such?

HI Saylin;

When you sent your DS-260 package, did you scan two copies of each document,(Original and copy of Original)or just one copy of it.
Also I am planning to send following documents in my DS 260 package can you kindly see if I am missing anything.

DS 260 coversheet
Birth Certificate of Beneficiary
Marriage Certificate
Biographic pages of Beneficiary's Passport
Passport size photos of Beneficiary
Police clearance letters

chman_zinga

The two copies, original and copy, is only for those doing the paper DS-230. Since we're doing EP, that doesn't make any sense since we're scanning and sending them copies of the originals by email. Just scan the originals once, and send that.

Doesn't look like you're missing anything. For the passport pictures, make sure they're 2" x 2" and that the beneficiary's name, date of birth, and case number is written on the back of the both of them. Also, are you including a cover letter? It'd be a good idea so the officer can clearly see what's included in the package.

Hi

Also how do you write your name in native alphabet in DS-260

Chman_Zinga

I checked 'do not apply' since my name is spelled with Roman letters. For those that don't use Roman letters for their name, I have no idea how they would put it in the text box. I'd call up an operator and ask about that one.

HI Saylin

I have paid my I 864 fee and sent the package, now waiting for IV fee to be invoiced.
One more question for you, where did you get the police clearance certificate for your spouse in canada?
Can you share some details about what type of PCC one has to get and how to get it in Canada(Toronto)

Again thanks for your help so far.

chman_zinga

Grats on sending the I-864 package!

I got my PCC done here: http://www.recordche...ce-cpic-checks/ But if you're in Toronto, that won't work then since that's only for those in Montreal. You can either get it done at a local police station, an RCMP office, or at a place that does police certificates like where I got it done. Ask around for prices and delivery times. Mine cost $40 and arrived within a week and a half.

Hi Saylin;

One more quick question, I have paid my I 864 fees today, and my wife has completed DS-261 as well. Now once I 864 shows paid, do you have to wait till you get confirmation from NVC that you have successfully enrolled in Electronic Processing or you just email the package. On your blog you said, you have already sent the I 864 package, then did your receive any confirmation that you have been successfully enrolled in Electronic Processing or not ?Also the I 864 package has to be sent at the same email address (NVCElectronic@state.gov) we used to opt in for Electronic Processing or at some different email address.

Chman_Zinga

Hi,

No, I did not wait for confirmation for the optin. I just sent in my I-864 straight away. And it's to the same email as the optin: NVCElectronic@state.gov

Usually the optin acceptance takes 2-3 weeks but you don't need to wait to send packages in.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresElectronic Processing Steps

Hi Saylin

One quick help, if you can, can you send me the Sample Email you sent for opting in Electronic processing
I just want to make sure I don't make mistake.

Thanks
chman_zinga

The optin email is easy.

In the subject line put: OPTIN MTL20115XXXXX

The X's are the rest of your case number. You have to make sure 'OPTIN' is the first 5 letters in the subject of the email. Then the rest of the subject line is your case number.

As for the body, it's just:

Petitioner's name:
Petitioner's date of birth:
Petitioner's email address:

Beneficiary's name:
Beneficiary's date of birth:
Beneficiary's email address:

And that's it! I sent the optin email after getting the case number, IIN, and beneficiary ID number, and giving the email addresses to the operator. I sent this last Tuesday and still waiting for an acceptance. But I'm sure they have lots of emails to go through, so I'm waiting patiently.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresElectronic Processing Steps

Saylin, one quick question.

With the electronic processing, does DS-261 substitutes(supersedes) DS-3032, or both forms should be submitted?

PS. We're going to watch you guys very closely ;)) We got our NOA2s the same day. Probably, we'll see ya @ Montreal...

You fill out JUST the DS-261, don't do DS-3032. I got my case number on Tuesday, Wednesday NVC was closed due to weather, and by Thursday morning, I was able to send the DS-261. If you don't have the site yet, here it is: https://ceac.state.g...px?signout=true Up until Thursday, I wasn't able to see anything once I logged in. It said that my case was not eligible for further processing, but then it finally showed me the fees, the DS-261, and DS-260.

If you want to see what the DS-261 is gonna look like, I took some screenshots and you can find it here: http://s128.photobuc...61 Screenshots/ If you click each picture, I included a description underneath.

And I would highly suggest checking out (if you haven't already), the DS-260 screenshots that someone else uploaded: http://www.docstoc.c...60-screen-shots I went over them on Friday and got the additional info I needed that I didn't need for the DS-230. The DS-260 asks for EXACT dates (month, date, year) for addresses, employment, schools, etc, whereas the DS-230 only wanted month, year. So if you don't know them, I would suggest finding out and saving yourself time when the DS-260 does become available. There's also a few other differences with the DS-260, so you should make sure you have everything ready ahead of time if you want to get it done quickly.

If you want to see everything in detail about what we're doing, I have a blog dedicated to this whole immigration process and you might find it useful: http://journeythroug...n.blogspot.com/

And hope to see ya at Montreal. It'd be nice to know someone there on the interview day ;)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsi130 Outside of normal processing time

I wouldn't say 10 months for someone who filed in 2013 is overly slow by USCIS time frame, it is only more recently things have moved quicker. You should post your question here: http://www.visajourn...3-i-130-filers/

Can the petitioner contact their congressman? That seems to be the most effective way of getting things moving.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGot in through Detroit! Had a small bump to overcome...

I am so sorry to hear that.....but Congrats you made it to America!

Let me share my experience with you..... This past May I came home from spending a month in Tunisia with my fiance. I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so my POE was Detroit, then final destination Grand Rapids. When I arrived at Detroit airport and had gone through customs, I was asked to follow the blue line. Two immigration officers stopped me and grilled me for about 15-20 minutes. I was asked over and over the reason of my visit to Tunisia, I repeatedly told them I had gone there to vacation with my fiance. I was asked for my fiance's full name, date of birth and nationality. They emptied both my of my luggage's, searched in my purse, wallet, opened my laptop, etc. One of the officers took my passport ( I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN), the officer made a phone call while looking at my passport. The younger officer questioned me about my relationship with my fiance and asked me if he had paid me to marry him so he could enter the US. Then he asked if I had paid him to marry him and how much? I answered very calmly, he proceeded to ask more personal questions like " do you know what color underwear does your fiance wears?" I felt violated and humiliated, so I reacted and asked him the reason for all the personal questions. He simply said " I am an immigration officer and can ask whatever I want", so he continued to ask questions like, where and how did you meet your fiance, why are you engaged to a foreign man from Algeria, again.. why out of all the countries in the world I chose to got to Tunisia? I became very upset and told him I have had enough, I have done nothing and I feel like I am being miss-treated , I am no TERRORIST, I hold an American passport and I want to go home, I am an American citizen. At that point another officer showed up and said don't worry Ma'am, everything is okay, the officers are just doing their job. You are okay to go now...The one officer approached me and handed back my passport and said you can put your stuff back in your luggage... I said " Thanks'!

This is how I was welcome back home by my own people.... Sad but true.

My fiance is coming home the first week of October and I will NOT have him fly to Detroit, instead I will have him come to Chicago O'Hare. What a horrific experience! I can't imagine how our loved ones will feel if treated the way I was treated by officers like these ones.

File a complaint! I regret not doing it. Never got the name of these two officers.

Welcome to America!

Don't take my word for it but I'm sure I read somewhere USC do not have to answer questions to immigration. They can ask and hold you as long as needed to make any checks and searches though....

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - September 2014

HI...me again.  So I got my "Welcome to NVC" letter by email on the 22nd, and immediately chose an agent (myself since I am the US spouse/Petitioner).  I have been checking the Ceac.state.gov website waiting to be able to pay the AOS fee but I am still getting the error (that thanks to this forum I know is ok- just means it is "not available to pay" yet) and then today I get the EXACT same email, but this time it has the AOS invoice attached with a barcode saying I can pay this.  I get all excited and go to pay but I am getting the same error.

my questions:

1- does this mean my "choosing an agent" did not work? Even though I got a confirmation email.  Do I go and do this again, or does that "reset" the time line - even if it is 2-3 days...I still don't want to do that.

2-Do I just wait patiently? Or do I send in my payment by snail mail?  It seems others on this forum are having no problem paying the AOS even the same day or next day as choosing agent.

help!

Please remember, the AOS and IV tracks have NOTHING to do with one another (except that both need to be completed before a case is completed).

If the DS-261 shows as complete on the portal, then it's fine. Do NOT touch it.

Just wait patiently for the AOS to become available on the portal. It should be within a few business days. Snail mailing payment should be your very last resort.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - September 2014

Oops, I didn't know your Florida trip was unpaid leave, I assumed you might have accumulated the paid leaves or something like that...

Nope! I wish though, as it lost me about $500, which I could definitely use to pay off my trip, haha.

At my job, we only get vacation time once we hit 1000 hours, and apparently the amount is based on how much time is left in the year once you do hit 1000 hours (which does make sense once you think about it). But, I'll be getting a full 10 days on January 1st which is valid for a year. Don't think I'll have a problem using my vacation time

SaylinFemaleCanada2014-09-25 13:03:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - September 2014

I so want your job, not what you do on VJ, but what you do at the customs office :P. I could seriously use some vacation myself. There's still time before your vacation and I expect a decision on my case before you go. I already am having nightmares of a checklist, god forbid I get one in reality. A checklist may mean my immigration journey taking two years, so all of the checklists reported in this thread are scaring me, seems like just about everyone is getting them.

Well, I didn't have any vacation days for my Florida trip, so that was completely unpaid for. I actually just hit 1000 hours at work on Tuesday, which meant benefits, one of which is vacation days. But it's based on how much time is left in the year. So, typically, it's 10 days a year, but I just got 2.5 days. Which I'm completely using for this trip to Canada, and I'll still be missing 8 hours unpaid (thankfully the 13th is a holiday here, otherwise it would have been 16 hours unpaid). So, please don't think I have lots of vacation time, cause it's the complete opposite!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - September 2014

Thanks for your reply.

But I am not asking about when to file I130. If you go through my signature then you can see we filed already and also got approved. My question is about whether NVC will process my case untill CC and then I have to wait for visa number or whether NVC will put my case on hold untill the pd is current.

I thought NVC completes the case under F2A category and puts it on waiting if priority date is not current before sending the completed case to the local consulate.

Can anyone clarify please? Saylin can you please?

Sorry, I don't know anything about the F2A visa process. I thought the same as you, that you can essentially get a case complete but then be stuck waiting in the interview queue until the PD became current. But, I don't follow the F2A process, so who knows, it could have changed. You can try calling NVC and speaking with a supervisor about it. Or look in the appropriate forum here on VJ as this one technically is for IR-1/CR-1 visas (even though your NVC process is practically the same, minus the waiting part for PD to become current).

Since no one answered my question...

@ TomHank:

Hello,

If I am not mistakenI saw that you've sent the IV package with the AOS Barcoded cover sheet ...Could you please tell me if you send them the IV Fee Bill receipt afterwards?

Thank you in advance for your response.

The fee receipt for either bill is not needed by NVC. Please read their official website on what is needed. A glance at post 1 wouldn't hurt either ;)

Saylin I have a stupid question. Do u think they forward ur call log to the embassy from Nvc? Like a record of who called and when?

I obviously don't know for certain, but I would say no. I'm thinking the call log is just for internal purposes, to show what's been going on with the case, as well as if they need it for legal purposes.

And the final question, paper clip or staple the forms together??

Paper clip, paper clip, PAPER CLIP.

Imagine you're the reviewing officer. Which is easier to remove, a paper clip or a staple?

Paper clip = less than a second

Staple = first need to get a staple remover, then remove the staple = much more time (and I don't know about you, but I HATE removing staples)

Sooo, do you want to make the reviewing officer's job easier or harder? ;)

Thank you Saylin, feeling great to get the response from the IMMIGRATION EXPERT :-) .
One more question specially for you. Does previous non immigrant visa e.g. student and visit , denials can result in refusal of immigrant visa?( specially from a country like Pakistan?

You have a very good vision and experience so your answer will help me a lot.

Anything can result in a denial, it's up to the officer.

Anecdote though: I had two denials at the border and had no issues. Wasn't even asked about it at the interview. But that was Canada, so.

Hi all vj members,

My passport is about to expire. I have already submitted my ds260 with my current passport number. Now I have to apply for a new passport. In Pakistan only the last digit of passport number changes. Now please tell me how can I update this change in my ds 260?

Do I change it right now( my iv documents and ds260 have been reviewed at NVC, now waiting for checklist to be reviewed)?
Do I change it after case complete and bring a print out of whole form as well as confirmation page? ( does this confirmation page also change after making changes?)

I hope you people understand I don't want to stay at NVC for another 60 days after making even a minor change in my case.

Your help is greatly appreciated

You don't need to do anything except bring the new passport to the interview.

I'm back just in time to wish you farewell! Glad you're taking a real vacation, if only there was such a thing as an out of office message for VJ  Have a fantastic trip, and good luck sticking to your HP budget! ;)

Thanks! I waved while I was in the Minneapolis airport. Did ya see me?

And oh my, that would be so useful! I definitely need an out of "office" message for PMs  :jest:

And yes, I'm going to try as hard as possible to stick to my $100 HP budget. Maybe, if I don't spend my budget on souvenirs for the other parks, I'll add it to my HP budget

On my second, and last, flight to Orlando :D After today, I won't have time to go on VisaJourney as I'll be at the parks for 12+ hours each day, so I won't be reading (and thus replying) to any posts here until next Sunday. And if you PM me, it'll be at least 2 weeks before I reply to you. So, don't PM me :P (I've already mentioned this in the first post, but people still PM me  <_< ).

I did open it already, but I just reopened it 'just in case' and you were right.
Ugh, I've been beating myself up for hours now and it was so simple.. thank you Saylin, youre a lifesaver.

Haha, you're welcome! Maybe you have to open it each time when you go on that page, so if you move away to another location, then you may have to re-open it before being able to sign/submit.
