Hmmm...I have ATT too Roxcie..and I had a LG and had it unlocked and it wouldn't work with digicel....but i had bought my husband a phone back in the day and he had unlocked down there and it works with digicel....it's something with the band u have to pick the correct band...I just got a Palm centro and I'm about to ask to have it unlocked too

Hotlegz

I brought my hubby a unlock LG shine just recently, and it worked with his digicel. I brought my Blacberry unlocked, and it works with digicel when I am in JA. So it might be the band. The only phone I had unlocked was the razor from ATT, they gave me the code to unlock it after they noticed we had quite a few calls to and from JA on my bill. It worked with digicel after we unlocked it.

After talking with my international friends, I will only buy unlock phones now, because if you are trying to sell it most consumers are looking for unlock phones, they might not be associated with the plan you are on. Also this makes it easier to sell, when I want to just get a new phone. I don't change phone that often.

As we all have experienced here the guys in JA have a problem with keeping a phone for long period of time. Now why is this?

Hey, I am not quite clear what you'll are saying here. I had my husband razor unlocked, is was ATT phone, and it worked for him in JA. I brought my phone unlocked (Blackberry) and it works with my digicel chip. I know spirit and verzion phone do not have chips, (some of them do) so you can't use those. I would still buy a cheap unlock phone to use in JA, rather than keep bearing the international rates for calls I am making in JA to JA .

This site is having a sale on unlock phone for any one who may be intrested in purchasing unlock phones.

You are so right, I hate the fact that I now have to pay for luggage. So I will have to learn to do with one suitcase. I don't know how you are going to be able to pack a 50lb limit suitcase for a three week trip. Now what I am planning on doing the next time I go down, I will leave some of my clothes (summer) since I live in a seasonal area of the USA. When I go back in November for the 3 weeks, I won't have to bring as much for myself, then I can bring along some other items for gifts. Note, I generally have the 50ib limit because my flight always have a layover in Florida. Air Jamaica, is the only one not charging for bags yet, but their tickets are too high, plus I like flying out out Ronald Regan in DC, this way I can get the subway home if no one is available to pick me up.

exactly roxcie, there were times when we were together and would just be together in a room, me watching TV, him doing something else, who knows and it was fine. I havent lived with a man in about 6 years or so, so i believe that it will be a major adjustment on both of our parts, but right now we are focusing on being totally honest with one another. I dont like the fact that he drinks, now i am a social drinker, and when i was in JA, i was quite social...lol...but he always drinks red stripe, no big deal, most men drink beer, well D is a bartender. I have yet to see him drunk or his personality change when he is drinking but i still dont like it. So anyway, he called me and said baby, i know i said i wouldnt drink today, but some guest came to my bar and had me make them a special drink and then insisted i have one with them. Im like fool, they are on vacation, you are at work, when your butt is unemployed dont say shyt, now i know you have to smooze your guests and when they are drinking and have a good time you want to keep the good vibes rolling, but ROXCIE then he goes on to say baby, i had six shots with them!!!!! he said well im being honest i know you dont like it, but im telling you so dont be mad. blink.gif

OR how about "this is the Jamaica way". My sister-inlaw who married my brother-in-law, (after he can her last month on a work visa), calls me and say everytime something isn't right... her SO tells her its the Jamaica way. kicking.gif I tells her that is not true, and he knows the stuff he is spilling out is not right. The good thing about this is my brother-in-law and his wife is going thru the adjustment period first, so I will know what mistakes not to make or what I might expect from my husband. But I really can say that my husband and his brother are like day and night. Like when I was there last, every evening when my husband came in from work he brought me mangos, or pineapples or something special to drink. I came to realize that the fruit and drinks were in place of flowers. Before he left for work he would make me coffee. When I was visiting he only worked in the morning, so we had a lot of time together. I'm sitting here now wondering, if I could have gotten him to paint my toenails. Now ladies we know that is a special treat, if your man is willing to paint your toenails.

LOL, Roxcie, I HATE that line!

You are too funny with the toenails - My nails are the one area that I am high maintenance in - I get frequent manicures and pedicures. Last trip, DJ stepped on my toe and chipped the polish somehow - He said that he would fix them - Between using the remover to take off the polish, and then repainting them, my entire foot had a pinkish red tinge with red stripes! I guess it's the thought that counts, but never again! wacko.gif He can paint the house, etc.... no more toes!

I too am high maintenance with my toe-nails. My husband says I am too high maintenance with shoes, i will wear three different pair of shoes a day. When I travel I used to have just one suitcase for shoe. LOL, I have gotten much better now. I try to limit my shoes on a trip, but I am always looking for shoes when I travel. I spend money on shoes and bras and panties. I can be having a lousy day, I just smile when I remember what I might be wearing under my clothes. My husband gets a HOOT good.gif out of it. I could have on all blabk, but my undies copuld be bright shocking hot pink or red or leopard skin stripe. This alos helps my confident when I am in a meeting and I am the only person of color and the rest are WM's who think I have nothing of importance to say. Well off to the gym I must go.

Good morning ladies,

i have absolutely no plans for today. Last saturday this time, i was in JA, with my SO, happy as can be. Today im laying in bed, bored and contemplating how many before days before i return to JA....LOL mellow.gif

Honeychild, here is one of the unlock phone web sites that I use sometime http://www.wirelesshut.com/. They are having a great sale right now.

I also understanding how you are feeling right about now. My hubby and I decided that i would be coming back to JA for a little lover nest, the first weekend in Aug. Noone will know I am there, so we will spend all of our time together. Our situation is a little different, I meet my husband here in the USA, before he went back to JA before his visa expired we were living together. But we didn't get married here, we married after he went back and realize that he wanted to spent the rest of his life with me. You know how everone in JA has a nickname, so he decided to give me one, and it is "B" Trouble. so, since that is my name its nothing for me to call him at 4:00 am in the morning, and tell him I miss him. Then I tell him to move over because i am climbing in the bed with him, because he is usually half sleep, he starts to move over to make room for me, then it darns on him, I am talking to him over the phone. Then he goes into his mumbling of patois. (Ha Ha) Who does he remember when he wakes up fully/ TROUBLE.

Well let me now call his grandmother who is a pistol. She keeps a check on everyone.

Roxcie

Thanks Roxcie, i was just sitting here thinking about calling my SO, he is probably awake and up doing laundry. I miss him so much wacko.gif but i hate how consumed i feel at times by wanting to talk to him and be with him. When i dated guys in the states, it was never like this, probably because i knew we would see one another or talk, and if a day went by that we didnt talk , no big deal, as i didnt want to appear clingy. With my SO being in JA, i dont feel i have that luxury( it that makes any sense). I was all set to make a quick weekend trip back next month, but he talked me back to my senses that i cant afford to do that( and he is right). ....( sighing...)

I truly understand all that you have expressed, the quick trip back for me will be at his expense, totally. He said we need to talk, I will talk and you will listern. He says I am hard head, but that is not true I am logical. Well for him to say he qill talk is a plus in its self. He do not like to explain things in detail, where I am a detail person. This should be very interesting. Ha HA. We are learning to communicate better, its better we work on it now before we live together and then come to realize that we have a communication problem. We will take advance of our seperation to work on issues that might cause us major problems when we start living in the same house. Honeychild, this relationship I have with my husband is alot different than what I have had with previous ex. I was the same way, I never felt the need to cling, if I heard or saw them I was fine. But with my husband its like I can't get enough of him. With mu husband we can sit in a room together and don't speak and we are but okay with it.

He had to experience one of my PMS monents. I told him the other day, I needed space. He texted me back and said "YOU are my wifey, what space. That made me laugh so hard. laughing.gif yes.gif I texted him back and sid and YES you are my husband. So I quess the space request was denied. See being single for so long, i didn't have to request space, just didn't answer my cell phone. Can't do that anymore. These are the small things I am getting use to.

Honeychild, you can buy any phone unlock, I only buy unlock phones. Lock phones are only sold here in the USA, eveywhere else in the world they sell unlock phones. If I wanted to change my carrier, all I have to do is put their chip in. I have an unlock Blackberry pearl, and I switch between, T-mobile for my Blackberry service, Att for business, and digcel when I am visting in JA. This makes life so much easier. If you wish I can turn you on to some websites I use when I am looking for unlock phones. I will be researching to find the unlock ipod soon.

Roxcie --

Thanks for the breakdown. My SO has tried to explain this to me time and time again about the chip and the phone... and changing the chip in the phone to different providers...yada, yada, yada. It was like he was speaking Greek, but I think I understand more since you mentioned the difference between lock and unlocked phones. Hell, I never new our phones were locked, but it makes sense now.
Thanks, girl! good.gif

You are quite welcome, as I mentiones when I am in JA I put a digcel sim card into my phone, so now I am not aquiring international rates for calls that I receive from within JA. This makes it a lot easier, when I am calling my husband on his cell phone if we are not together.

Roxcie, that would be cool any info you can provide would be good, i will probably just forward it to him or print it out and mail it to him and let him decide what he wants.

JG,

Okay help me understand, i have Verizon right now and intend to keep it, but if i went into an AT&T carrier of cellphones or a mall kiosk, and bought a blackberry pearl with no service on it, then when i went to JA he could just put a digicell chip in and get it working?

Honeychild, as long as ATT unlock the phone for you, you can put any carriers sim cad in it. Remember you will need to have them to unlock it for you.

Iphone, right? Otherwise, you are confusing me.

I use cellular blowout for unlocked phones.

I just looked.....an unlocked blackberry is $349.99. OUCH!!!

I have bought unlocked for people and taken them into JA for them. All they do is put in the chip and they are good to go. I had a few issues with using my unlocked Razr in the US. Had to call AT&T and get them to do something.

I thought this was interesting for the stats........

ROXIE....mawnin...how you so quiet? MAKE some NOISE Roxie. How di hubby?

Update on my girlfriend.

She got back from Jamaica last night and I was right, she went down to get the business in order. Good thing his name was never attached to anything. Her husband has access to nothing. The only reason she's allowing him to stay in the family house is because 2 of his children live with him and they have a year left in school. After that, he's out. She says she has too much on her mind right now to be hurt. She wanted to forgive him with the advice of her pastor, but when she found out that the woman he slept with was only 19 years old -- THAT WAS IT! Her and the baby are fine. When she flew into Miami, she was taken to a room to be questioned, because she told them that she was 7 months pregnant and they didn't believe her. She asked them if she wanted her to do a strip search, but they said, no and let her get on her way to her connecting flight. She's invested so much time, money and love into this marriage and for it to end this way, but she says in the long run it would have cost her much more....peace and happiness.

That's good news Lawny. Another strong woman in this crazy world......

Tre, good morning to you too. My hubby and I are doing fine, I have been back from JA a little over 2 weeks now. I am having anxiety attacks over missing him. We cried on the phone together last, so he has just purchase me a ticket to return for a long weekend the first week of Aug. This time no one will know I am there and we will spend all of our time hold up together. This visa process will be the life of me. I don't like the separation part. My husband has stated many time, that I could just wait it out with him in JA. But as I explain to him I do have a career, and I need to work. All is well other wise, but I HATE being separated from him, but I quess the worse thing about this is allowing someone else (USA) making a decision on how my life will be palyed out in the next 12 months.

Ladies,

I am at my wits end. I haven't been around the message board for a bit because I guess I was hoping I would have some answers or stuff would work, etc. It has been over two weeks since I've talked to my SO and I don't know what is going on or what has happened. He won't or can't take my calls. I've called cousins of his and friends. They were hopeful at first and said don't worry. One of his friends says he keeps trying to call him but is not getting through. I've asked his cousins to get me more contact numbers and they haven't called me back in a couple of days. I just don't know what to think......except that this has happened before.

We've known each other for over five years. We filed for a fiance visa back in 2003 but very tragically his oldest son was killed in an accident and my SO lost it which is understandable. He was all consumed with caring for his youngest son after that who was only 14 at the time and he cut me out and we broke up. During the last five years we reconciled and we were both ready to get married and make a life together so I filed for the fiance visa again.

Now we were as far as receiving Packet 3 from the embassy. My SO mailed in a form which I later found out was the wrong form, hence we still haven't gotten an interview date. Basically, my last conversation, as brief as it was, was that he sent in the wrong form. He didn't believe me. We made a date to talk later to go over the papers over the phone and make sure he gets the correct one sent off. He didn't answer my call. The next day I got ahold of him but he was busy so he said he would call me after church the next day. The next day he did not call and ever since I haven't gotten through to him.

I just can't believe we are so close and once AGAIN it seems he is losing it. More hurtful is that I just plain don't know what is going on. We didn't argue. No big drama.

May I request a prayer for peace with the issue and things to work out to God's plan. I honestly believed it was part of God's plan that he and I were together again. I haven't completely given up hope but it doesn't look good either.

Thank you all.

Hi, I am sorry to hear you are going thru this right now, but it seems that you are unable to get through to him. Could it be that his phone is not working. Has anyone physically seen him? You stated that he is involve with his church, can you try calling the pastor to see if there is anything that he//she knows. It could be something minor, so don't jump to conclusions before you have heard back from family members and friends that he is physically okay.

least but not last it now may be the time for a trip to talk face to face. You know him better than any of us on this VJ site, five years is a long time to be involve with someone and for them to just disappear without any discussion.
Yes, maybe what you may find out is not what you want to hear or see, or it maybe that your presence is needed and required to continue this relationship.

But rememember no matter what decision you may make, our prayers and love are there for you. We will laugh with you or cry with you when this is resolved, but remember we are backing you no matter what.

Having a bit of a rough weekend here. Wondering WTH we need family anyway. Some days..................

Funny.....I thought the same thing this weekend.........!!!!

Congrats Lawny - welcome Marcel!! My heart is exploding for you two! heart.gif

Right there with ya'll!

This morning...bright and Early KJ's mom calls! Ok, she has been building a house...so she is moving this Friday! Great, cause the area she lives in now is straight Garrison! We have been sending money down to her religiously for KJ's expenses and to help wid her move. The end of every month we send her $$. She calls today to tell Ken that her house needs windows and can we send down more $$ before Friday! blink.gif

I look at Ken like... huh.gif ...what is she talking about we just sent her her monthly allowance LAST WEEK!!! Look this month is already bugeted and I want to get Ken's AOS out before the end of it! If we send her what she is asking for that will NOT happen!

I told him...we can't do it! I'm sorry! He understood why and seemed ok with it...but I know in his heart he is worried about his son sleeping in a home with no windows! SOOO... now what??? Do I look like a big bad meanie and stick with the plan to file or give this chick her dyam windows!!? I told him we can give her the windows...but I don't want to hear JACK about going back to Yard anytime soon b/c w/o the AOS filed...there will be No GC or AP...zeen!?

Am I wrong? I just feel so dyam conflicted with this thing! At the same time I'm like WHO THE HELL doesn't realize that windows need to be purchased PRIOR to your move! So, you know me...is this Chick trying to run GAME on us??? I just want Ken and KJ to be happy and safe...but I don't want to be manipulated! Which is EXACTLY what I feel like I am being right now!
URRRRRRRGH!!! mad.gif
Bless,
Gill

Gil,

I just got back from JA on Saturday, and I saw lots of houses with the window area boarded up, waiting to get the windows. I say do the AOS, and send the mother the window money, one window at a time when you and Ken has it. They will not be completely exposed to the element. Look at it this way she is a lot further, than she would have been if you had never entered into their life. Repeat what Jamaican always says it will soon happen. The windows will soon happen.

Be Blessed

The other way back is $857, is this an airfare price? These low prices are a marketing strategy, so the $1.00 fare won't last a very long time, maybe thru the summer. So I would take advantage of it now, can't fly, take the bus. Most of the busses are new, so comfort is there. Leave the driving to some one else.

Hey ladies, those of you who like a little adventure, here on the east coast NY to DC or DC to NY. There is a bus company called the MEGA BUS, they have tickets as little as $1.00 each way from NY to DC or DC to NY. There are other tickets prices aswell, it depends on what time you are willing to travel. I just purchase a friend of my SO a $2.50 round trip ticket from NY to DC over the 4th of July weekend.

In DC the bus stops at the METRO subway stop, but soon will be at Union Station . In NY it is at PENN statation. This is not the (chinese bus), this is something new. Go to www. MEGABUS.com

Evening, all - I left work at noon today, went and got a spa pedicure, then came home and took a nap! I woke up and watched the Bucket List - incredibly sweet movie if you haven't seen it.

Congrats, Auntie Marlita, she's adorable! And I agree JAEng, the pics of your son just get cuter and cuter!

Gill, I agree with you about loving hearing the good stories - I am going to a baby shower next week for a friend who married a JA man on a K1 - they have been married 5 (I think) years, just bought a house, and this is their second child. She is a constant inspiration to me to have faith.

Welcome Army wife - I think you should be fine, as JAEng said - If your overstay was less than one year, then you should be able to adjust no problems - if it was greater than one year, you might have to file a waiver for the overstay - But I know people who have done similar and now have their green cards (not from JA).

Hope everyone has a good weekend - any plans?

I heard something about if the marriage was after more than 60 (or 90?) days in the country, the USCIS would automatically assume there was no intent to marry beforehand.....
I don't think she needs a waiver, I think those are for people abroad.....

I know she'll be just fine smile.gif

Good morning JaEnglish,

I know Charles County is quite, you need to come over her to Prince George's county for a little action. HA Ha. Yes, Maryland is quite, but we love it here. I made it out to the Carribbean market you referred me to and it was great. I'm stocking up on small things that would make my hubsand feel at home, so when he reaches here I will already have those things on hand. I'm also learning to cook some of the dishes from JA. Your little one is very handsome, he reminds me of my son when he was his age. They grow so fast, so enjoy him. I hope you have an ejoyable Saturday. You really should try going to the farmer market over at the National Harbor. It is really nice.

Roxcie

Roxcie,

Where are you located. I'm in Bowie... Near the MVA in Largo. What market did you go to? I like the one on New Hampshire Ave.

JaEnglish,

Their trying to build up the Charles County area. It's getting better because I can remember when there was hardly any good stores down there. I'm down there from time to time. I have family in Brandywine.

The only reason why I would relocate to FL would be to fly back and forth to JA for little of nothing. lol

Sorry, I didn't see this before, I'm located in the Clinton area. There is a Farmer Market in Upper Marlboro and at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill.
Same here for locatioing to FLA, it would be to fly to JA for a cheap price.

offtopic45vn.gif All this talk about airline tickets have me wondering. Mike called a travel agency in Ja and got a quote for a flight to Orlando and was given JA$48,000 for a Delta flight. wow.gif I asked him if it was a first class ticket and he said no. I kindly tole him to call AJ or the airline itself and it is sure to be cheaper. He called AJ and was given JA$22,000. I like this is really too much so I went on line and checked for my self. The oneway ticket to Orlando is listed as US$144 + $96 or so for tax. A little over US$200. If I convert it to Ja money at say JA$70 to US$1 that would eqal about JA$14,000 or so. Why is the ticket more expensive if purchased in JA? Anyone with a clue about the price variations?

Lawny you might be able to answer that for me since I know you all purchased Marcel's ticket in JA (assuming).

Clairern. I have purchase tickets from JA and they always cost more than the ones I purchase state side. One there is another tax that they charges addition to the ones you pay state side. Also note, if the ticket is purchase state side, at the time of departure they still charge for that additionbal tax. It can be anywhere from 8.00 to 32.00 dollars. I for one would not purchase my ticket in JA, I would purchase an e- ticket here and pay the additional tax.

Roxcie

So in essence, it would be more cost effective of I purchase an e-ticket for him and let him pay whatever additional taxes they want (I think that is what used to be called the departure tax at one time). Well, I will just have to see what happens.

Thanks for your opinion on this. good.gif

Girl,

Do it online. Same rass foolishness when he went to the AJ office in Mobay. I paid $241/US for his one-way ticket. If he purchased it in Jamaica it would have been $340/US. So, when I called she was trying to tell me about this and that fee and taxes and it being a paper ticket and that it's one-way. Mi jus hang up my phone and book it online.

wow.gif that is what it is? All taxes and paying for a paper ticket? Well looks like we will be booking on line.

Claire....

If you purchase online, they should include that departure tax in the ticket price. I booked Andre's out online and we weren't charged anything extra on departure.

Paper tickets have always costed you an additional charge. The internet is a thing of beauty as far as that goes.

Clairern,

First let me start by saying YES, you will get a better deal on airfare if you purchase his ticket on-line and he has an e-ticket. Second, let me parphharse my statement by saying this is what happen to me when i just purchased 32 rountrip airline tickets for a work aboard programm that I assist with. These tickets were purchased with American Airline; when each and everyone of the ticket holder showed up at the counter for check-in they were informed that they need to pay an additional 8.00 dollars for a departure tax. Note: when I tried to purchase these same tickets from Air jamaica, they informed me that when these tickets are used the holders would be assessed an additional tax in JA. Since the tax was higher on the Air Jamaica end, I did not use them. Third, does every airline follows this policy, I cannot say.

In typing this I just wanted to clear up my statement, what I as a Travel Agent has experienced in the last 90 to 60 days in purchasing tickets for JA's when they are leaving from JA and returning to JA. Will this be your situation on a one-way ticket, I cannot say that, but please note airlines are changing their ways of doing business every day. That was why I posted my thread about Delta, who now is charging 50 dollars for your second bag flying domestic.

That's a rip off......

I flew on AirJamaica last month and didn't have to pay any seperate taxes. If they are doing this now it must have just went into effect. Not sure. Is this tax only for Jamaican citizens or something? lol I'm confused.

Please note, I have stated that the orginal departure was from JA, This does not apply if your orginaly depature is from the USA.

Congrats Island on your interview date good.gif and to Sunny and Jski too, your interview dates will soon come!

Quana, I think for your situation the best thing to do is hire a lawyer. I know it can be costly but in the long run its worth it. Your ex sounds like an unreasonable person and because unfortunately you are still married and have no separation agreement to fall back on he can cause alot of problems for you if you deny him the kids.

I am not sure where you live, if I knew I could probably be more helpful. But I am from NY and here you can file a petition for an order of custody. If you can't afford a lawyer, the judge can appoint a lawyer at no charge.

But like others have said, a good start is to go to your local court's website, that should provide lots of information. They make have a link to affordable attorneys.

Please sxplain to me, how she can "still be married' and file for a K1. I think we are quoting some information that may not be correct.

I think they want to file; but have to wait for her divorce. So far, she is pre-gathering info. Someone correct me if I am wrong, please.

Oh, then she diffentialy need to have this situation tighten, before she venture into this new relationship. As we all know, this visa process is very stressful without adding any additional burden on your self.

I bought my husband up here Feb 08, thinking what we really had was a marriage. Come to find out that we really didnt. Once he located his family and established relationships he moved a couple states away. What can I do, could i send him back? I discovered that he neither his family care for americans and thought all types of things of me. I feel horrible. I bought him up here, and has supported him since because he still hasnt worked.

Tidanemu - I'm so sorry it worked out this way for you. rose.gif

i guess that is life, but it sucks. we have a child together.

Your child will be your blessing. It's his loss, not yours. If you think he will take care of his responsibility, Iwould re-think that. Please remember you are not alone, this will work itself out. You have already taken the first step.

Be Bless
