CanadaK-1 March Interviews !!!

I am very curious about this as well. My fiance' and I both have Nexus Cards too. Since he doesn't intend to POE until July 1 and his interview is on May 3, is he going to have to stay in Canada because the visa is in his passport even though he could use his NEXUS card to go across the border without showing his passport? Are you planning to ask this question about your fiance' traveling with NEXUS at the interview? I will be very interested to hear the result. I just don't want to mess anything up now that we actually have an interview date and can start making forward plans.

I have heard of people here who crossed the border without activating their K1s before doing their "official K1 POE" -- but that was after they had gotten the actual visa ... not while waiting for it after the interview. (I wonder if it wasnt Arabella... but cant remember precisely now.)

CanadaPacket 3

Hey guys, i'm waiting on packet 3, is there anyway I can find out if montreal consulate sent it out yet? A number to call or a website to check? Thanks!

Yes, call DOS 202-663-1225 Posted Image

You will need your case number, starting with MTL, that you can get from NVC.

CanadaYAY!!!!!!

It was soo funny too, because I was FAST ASLEEP! Saw the missouri number on the phone and picked up and said "baby, just give me 15 more minutes..Ill call you back" because I thought it was my husband. And the lady was like "Ummmm, Coralie... its Alicia from Sam Graves's office, your visa was approved this morning!".

I felt like such a bonehead! But yes, I am dancing around in circles now! Work is going to be SOOO hard today!

Thats too funny! Posted Image

CanadaCheck my list please

you have alot of tax info. is that because his salary is less than the required amount for the i-134? if he makes enough i doubt you'll need all that extra stuff. we just brought in a copy of his most recent h&r block return with the matching w2 (aka t4 slips), and the irs transcripts of the 2007 and 2008 returns, along with a job letter.

So, Im just sort of triple-checking everything here. If we have Matt's IRS transcripts from 2009 (along with previous years), we do not need W2s, right?
I read they prefer the IRS transcripts but I want to make sure we are not missing something silly we could easily obtain.

CanadaIssues entering Canada with vehicle plated "In transit"?

Have you checked out ABF for moving your things instead? My fiance' found it was way cheaper than U-haul for even door to door moving (although we went with terminal to terminal since his terminal is about 5 minutes from his house and the terminal for me is about 20 minutes away and we could borrow some trucks on either end to get the stuff to the terminal. Just a thought, unless you really want to buy another vehicle for yourselves.

Yes, I did look into it initially. But since we'd both be flying + my dog, it makes more sense to us to get a van.
I love a good roatrip and we have places to stay on the way. :)
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-05-24 12:16:00
CanadaIssues entering Canada with vehicle plated "In transit"?

There was a fee for the temp tag but nothing too serious. Also, Florida makes you pay for your home state taxes at their office, but Delaware does not have any taxes so we lucked out there. Also, since we flew down there to drive it back, the previous owner gave us a ride to DMV and stayed there while we obtained temp tag...just to make sure everything went ok. You'll be good...if you know what state you will buy new vehicle in, just call their local DMV and ask about their proceedures and costs.

Okay great! thanks for clarifying this for me! :)
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-05-24 11:54:00
CanadaIssues entering Canada with vehicle plated "In transit"?

I'm confused.

He will go and register it correct? Do you mean he will have the temporary registration documents rather than the permanent ones?

If so, I can't see that being a problem. I'm sure it's different in every state but normally when you register your vehicle they give you the new plates on the spot and a temporary print out of title.

Hmph... Im confused too! I dont know exactly how it works in the U.S.

It would be a used vehicle purchased from an individual. He is telling me we wouldnt need to go get it registered right away. We would want to have it plated in Colorado, not Maine or Vt, where we are looking to buy.... So he is saying having the title and bill of sale would be enough. But I cant imagine driving around without somekind of temporary registration.

My husband (American) bought a camper (RV) last year in Florida and had a 'temp' tag or 'in transit' tag on it. We drove it directly from Florida to Canada for a vacation and had no problem entering Canada. He left two weeks later to head back to Delaware to register it. So you should have no problem crossing.

oh cool, thanks. That is pretty much our plan.
So how did he get the "in transit" tag?
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-05-24 11:46:00
CanadaIssues entering Canada with vehicle plated "In transit"?
Hi,

My fiancé (USC) is visiting me right now, and we'd like to buy a van in Vermont or Maine to move my things to Colorado after the interview. We figure it makes more sense than the Uhaul rental (who want nearly 2500$) as he will be using the van for his business afterwards.

The question is, can he go buy a van in the States and enter Canada with an In transit plate (or whatever you call it...)?
He would have it insured right away, just no actual registration. Does anybody know if it could be an issue at the border?

CanadaInterview in MTL

Well guys and gals, my interview date is 27 days away and of course the fee has to more than triple, however its bitter sweet for me as I kept on hoping and praying that i would not get an interview date before June 10 as i wanted to go to my friends weddind down in boston,so i can't be that upset, plus how many people are still waiting for a date. I am very anxious to get it over with. I think I have all my stuff ready and in order. I have the origianl and copy of everything below

NOA2
Interview date letter
Passport
Passport pics
Birth certificate
Divoce decree
police report
affidavit of support
letter from his employer and the 3 recent pay stubs
Letter of intent to marry me (do i need to do one up signed by myself aswell?)
evidence of domicile, cell phone bill and another utility bill
lots and lots of evidence, pics, airplane itineraries.
My medical is June 11 and i pick up the evelope the morning of the interview at 7 then run over to the consulate.

I am not taking the tax returns as he hasn't done his yet (i know he's late) and it says in the letter an example of evidence is tax returns, pay stubs etc. I think i wil lbe ok with this and i have everything ready to go.

Dont forget your Express post enveloppe and to write down your tracking number.

I dont think you need a letter of intent yourself, but I guess it doesnt take much time to write one up and then that's one less thing to worry about.
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-05-26 09:23:00
CanadaChange my name or not??
This article shows different options:
http://marriage.abou.../namechange.htm

I also have a very unique french name. It's 11-letters long and even french people have a hard time pronouncing it right, so forget about anglos! So Id like to take my fiancé's name socially, because I like it, it sounds good and it is so much simpler to say, no need to spell it, but officially keep my maiden name, because Im attached to it. Ive also made a name for myself in my field of work in the past 10+ years, so it is another reason to keep my "old" name.

I hate the grocery store at the nearby town. Its so outrageously priced. Unfortunately the next nearest grocery store is 1 hour round-trip away, and if I only need a few things its not worth the drive. This one is only 5 minutes.

The 1.5 quart of ice cream I just bought, nothing special or fancy just Blue Bunny, was $9.25.

The bananas, which are plentiful and cheap everyplace else in Hawaii were $2.45/lb. The cherry on the sundae is that most of the bananas at that price were 40% black on the outside.

I've decided that I'm stupid for shopping there.

Ouch!

There is a place like that close to Matt's house in Colorado. It's called the Village Market but we call it the Village Markup
Everything is a lot more expensive and the produce sucks.

But we end up going there if it's just to buy a couple of items b/c otherwise the drive isn't worth going to the other supermarket.

I hope your lil guy is feeling better soon Misty, and hopefully without tons of extra bills! =(

I had a vent, but it seems kinda dumb after reading yours.

Oh well... maybe everyone will at least get a chuckle out of it.

I hate dealing with support staff sometimes... I called Capital One to see if I could get a cute picture for Peachey's new card that's coming, and a different picture for my card.... Below is pretty much the conversation.

<blah blah security checks, 6 diff menus, 10 minutes on hold>
Me: "Can I have different images on the two cards on my account?"
Him: "You a primary on that account?"
Me: "Yes?"
Him: "So you can use the website to upload and image for your credit card."
Me: "er... Ok, yes. But it doesn't let me say which card it's for. I would like one for hers, and one for mine."
Him: "She's the secondary on the account?"
Me: "Yes?"
Him: "Then she would get the image too sir."
Me: "No. Listen, when I go to the website, it asks what account I want to change the image for. I select it, but I can't say if I want it on my wifes card, or on my card. I want two diferrent images one for each"
Him: "Oh, you want two images?"
Me: "YES."
Him: "You can only have an image for the primary, but don't worry she'll get it too."
Me: "... No, I want two different ones."
Him: "Oh, so you want different ones for you and her?"
Me: "YES."
Him: "Well, since she's the secondary she gets yours."
Me: "So, we can't do it."
Him: "Yes, you can put an image on the card."
Me: "But not two different ones."
Him: "No, but since she's secondary she can open an account she's primary and choose her own."
Me: "Ok, so we can't do it. Do you have a way to take a suggestion for future changes? I'd like to suggest that we be able to get our own on the same account."
Him: "No sir, you can't have two different images on the same account."
Me: "No, I WANT a way to make a suggestion to like your boss for the FUTURE that we be able to."
Him: "She has to have her own account to have her own picture, sir."
Me: "...."
Him: "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

I had friends look after my dog for a year while I was living abroad and it went smoothly. My vet had suggested it as he had done that before with his own dog.
He thought it was better and less traumatic than trying to bring him with me.

Yeah, but it's like, I feel terrible and what's funny is, I feel like I'll miss my dog more than I will my own family. She's my best friend, and I just can't bare the thought of being without her. She's the only thing that kept me sane during my husband's deployment. I can't stop crying over it. It really really sucks...and thank you so much for your words though. <3

well thats the thing with family, I think we always feel guilty, even if we know we are right to be upset. I know they always get to me...

Can you bring your dog with you? It sounds like she is yours if your mom was threatening you to let her loose to get back at you...
I know what you mean, I often feel like I owe my dog the little sanity I have left after the past year. Cant beat that unconditionnal love.
I hope things work out soon for you.

Okay, most of this is going to sound pretty juvenile, but I NEED to get it out of my system. I can't sleep when I'm angry..

So basically, I still live with my mother and she has the worst spending habits you can think of. She's about 20 grand in debt, and she keeps digging herself into it. She's even apart of money mentors (alberta program that helps those in serious debt) because her spending was getting so crazy. She has no more credit cards, because they have been taken from her.

Because of this whole scenario, over the years she has put me over 6,000 in debt. Just recently, I managed to pay it all off but now that I'm leaving, she seems adamant on trying to get me to lend her more money for new furniture and stuff. (We have a 2 bedroom house with 4 beds. Because you know, that makes tons of sense.)

Just today, she said she wanted to ''borrow'' my card so she could use it to pay installments on this air purifier, vacuum combo. $40 a month, and it takes a year to pay off. I've always made it a point to hide my card, so she wouldn't know I had one and try to spend it. But I guess she found it...:/ Some privacy I have.

And to top it off, she threatened to let me dog loose if I didn't comply. daslkdasdknasdnas

Thanks for letting me get that out of my system anyway...

I dont think that sounds juvenile at all. : ( Her behaviour kind of does. I understant that some people have a hard time controlling their spending habits, but still...
I would be really pissed. And doubly pissed about the threat to do anything to my dog.
Sorry to hear that. Family can be a real pain to deal with. Thankfully you'll be outta there soon, right?

Hehehe, I always found if I just said after they said 'It can't take that long, you must be doing something wrong' - 'yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you, but you know the US went really ####### after 9/11 and all of these immigration processes which should be really straight forward have become nightmares of bureaucracy due to security paranoia". They 'got it' every time and garnered a lot of sympathy after that :D ! Try it out sometime :) .

:) that's a great response! I'll put it to use when I get a chance...

kizzaFemaleCanada2010-02-10 17:03:00
CanadaThe Vent - Part Trois

I did my best to give them a peek into the ridiculous process, so at least maybe they could try to understand. Some did, others just scoffed with a "well that can't be, you're doing something wrong then."

I get a lot of that! I had one friend repeat to me all night at a dinner "why is so complicated for you?, My SIL married an american 10 yrs ago and I'm sure it wasnt that hard."

Recently my fiance was having a beer with his buddy, who was telling him how his friend's Canadian girlfriend had overstayed for years in the US (probably working there illegally too), and she went back to toronto for a wedding a few months ago. Of course she got denied entry back in the US. She managed to talk the ban down to 3yrs instead of 10.
So he is explaining to my fiance that he is flying to toronto the following weekend to get married and bring her back. That simple.
Im like, "Do they think we've spent the last 9 months apart because we are retards?".
God my fiance is patient.
Anyway, the guy came back by himself & unmarried.

Erm. So my coworker gave me this cinnamon themed present today with candles and this can of cinnamon stick spray. So I spray some on myself a little while ago after my shower and I notice that it's really strong. So I go to read the can and it says: "Spray twice to scent an entire room for up to four hours"

Oh. It's room spray... not body spray.

Never did I even question why someone would want to smell like a cinnamon stick either, that never crossed my mind. Perhaps because I love the smell of cinnamon.

Anyways this room spray has made me break out in hives. I love my life. sad.gif

Oh no, for the hives.

But if it can cheer you up, my friend did the same thing and was like "Ewww, why is this perfume making my hair so greasy??"
