CanadaJune 14th Interview Review

Congratulations Kizza,
I really enjoyed reading your detailed review.
Wish you both the best and a safe and pleasant POE!

oh good! I was afraid I was getting too specific, but I appreciated the details myself before my interview. I like to know what to expect in situations like that.

Thank you for your good wishes! :)

Congrats again! I may have mentioned this before.. but once she told us we were approved it was like someone had taken this 100lb weight off of me. It was the most relief i had ever felt in my life. LOL

It was an awesome feeling!! I was seriously elated. Such relief! But it's the next morning that it really started sinking in!! :D

CanadaJune 14th Interview Review
We showed up around 6h30 (parked the car on Bleury, below René-Lévesque, 12$ for the day - and a very short walk to the consulate.) We were the only ones there for a while. We were standing on the left side of the doors, and everybody else lined up on the right side, which made me start to doubt myself, but when the security guy came out, he had everybody line up behind us.
We ended up with letter B because our guy doing the security check was slower than the other. No big deal. Went downstairs and waited for someone to come back and escort us up the elevator.
We got called to window 8 after letters A and C. The lady was super nice. She had her checklist and asked for my papers, one at a time.
-Original birth certificate + copy + translation (certified, not notarised)
-Passport + copy of bio page
-Police certificates (originals they keep)
-Medical report - sealed - they dont want the xrays
-2 photos with my name printed on the back
-Letter of intent from Matt (I had one from me but she didnt want it)
-Form 134 + supporting docs (I had copies of the IRS transcripts, letter from employer, his 401K statement, and letter from the bank stating when the accounts were opened, amount in them and last year's total deposits, which they all kept)
-Big ####### enveloppe, with my name and address. She asked if I had written down the tracking number. She folded it a bit better than I had.
She asked if we knew about the new fees and sent Matt to pay the 350$ while we were taking care of the paperwork (you don't have to wait in line with everybody else -- you wait to the side and cut the line). Once he came back with the receipt, she took my fingerprints.
We waited a few more minutes, and after letter A was out, we got called to booth 8. You just walk right in.
The man in there was super nice and friendly right away. I was nervous but had a huge grin stamped on my face (had been waiting 9 months for this day!). He made me sign a form and I noticed my hand was shaking.

He asked a few questions:
- How did you meet? When?
- Who proposed to who?
- What was your technique, sir?
- What do you do (to Matt)?
- What do you do (to me)? .. and a few more detailed questions about my work.
- Ever had issues with the police?
- Ever married? Have kids?
- Ever had problems entering the U.S.? (yes, was denied entry) When? Why?
- Have you been in the U.S. since? No. Matt said we didnt want to take chances and started ranting that it had been way too long and very inconvenient. The man agreed apologetically.

He took a fingerprint of my middle finger and said, "Based on what you have told me today, I can tell you that your visa is approved". He must get a kick out of seeing peoples reactions when he says that because he was staring at me expectantly with a big smile as he said it. Indeed, the permagrin that was already plastered on my face got even bigger.
Matt asked if I could go to the U.S. without activating my K1 for a day or 2 and he said ABSOLUTELY NOT. We'd have to start all over again.
He gave me a piece of paper... not sure where that went. And gave me back my original birth certificate. All the rest they kept. He never asked us for any additional evidence of relationship.
Out by 9am.
I wish I would have believed people when they said not to stress about it!

... Also, I received my visa yesterday, so 3 days after the interview. :)

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview

Hi guys! I've been lurking on this site since we initially filed for our K1 the first week in January. Can't remember the exact date we sent the P3 to Montreal but I can tell you that I called yesterday after reading of the spate of new dates handed out and we too are on the list! For us the interview is August 16th!!
One question for anyone who may know. Inasmuch as my fiancée is Canadian we plan to marry in Canada late this summer so her 92 year old Mother can attend, before we do the POE package. So once we do, we will not actually be in a fiancée situation anymore. I wonder if this would be a problem? Any thoughts? Actually, we could go visit my Mother in Michigan before the wedding and do the POE in Port Huron then, come back a few days later, then get married a couple of weeks after that.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading about all the angst and now the happy notes those lucky enough to get their dates are writing.
Good luck to all and see you in line!

Hi, congrats on getting your interview date.

As per marrying in Canada, you can't do it on a K1. One of the requirement is that you enter the U.S. un-married and marry in the States within 90 days.
I guess it would be possible to do a simple ceremony of no legal value in Canada, but I read many times here that it is not recommendable... maybe someone will chime in about this one.

Also, once you enter the US and activate your K1, you will not be allowed to leave the country until you have either your green card or AP (advance parole), which can take a couple of months. If you leave the country without authorisation, you will have to start the process all over again.
In case of emergency, it is possible to get an emergency AP, but you will have to prove the need for it.

Good luck on your interview beantown79! Don't worry if you forget to ask, I would't bother! They might think you're an immigration spy and wonder how you know we don't have dates yet! :P

When are you POEing, Kizza?

Well, good luck to everyone who'll be calling today! I'm leaving in a week, and I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF! :D So excited!!!

Not exactly sure when I'll POE. Now that it's sorted out and that Matt is here, Im in no rush! lol I love Montreal in the summer.
But he wants to go, so maybe as early as the 27th or 28th.

I hope you guys get interview dates today!!
A bunch of you have trips lined up... that's when we got our date, once we had made plans to see each other, figuring we might not get an interview until August anyway.
It seems like they've been working on clearing some cases this week. It's your turn!!

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview

WOW i really hope you guys get your interviews soon. Looks like i just squeezed in. My interview is next week the 23 and I have not seen anyone on here booked after me (K1 anyway). If, (and when) they give me my visa next week i will ask whats going on for you!!! ha ha. don't want to get them mad befor they say the magic words "your approved" to me.

Hey Kizza, did they charge you the new fees at your interview? I have not received any letter yet advising me of the increase!!! good thing i am on visajourney!!!. Also did they give you back your original tax forms (W2's tax returns etc) I am hoping they do as i need them for theAOS

Thanks

Hey beantown. Yes, we had to pay the new fees. People who didnt have it had to run to an ATM to get it.
I know, I dont think it's right that they would impose it like that with no notice, after we got a letter clearly stating it would be 131$. But whatever, nothing we can do about it. In the end, I was just happy I knew abuot it ahead of time.

For the tax forms, I gave them copies (even had a post-it saying "copies to give on" it) and they took them and kept them. I had originals with me in case they'd want to verify anything but never asked for them. The only thing I got back was my original birth cert.

I wanted to ask about upcoming interviews and KevBev after I got approved (provided all went well) but once I heard the magic words, I was so elated, my mind went blank for a few minutes.:P There's a couple of little things I wanted to ask about my own visa I just forgot too.

I realllllly hope we hear something by tomorrow or Monday...I was looking back at when the last batch found out when there interviews would be for June..they found out April 16-19 for a interview in June...So if we are lucky, maybe this will be our week we find out for a hopeful interview in Aug or late July would be great too..I know Montreal doesn't have a pattern that they work by...but here's to hoping...

AandB...I hope you have a safe POE, can't wait to hear about it!

Good luck! I hope you guys get your date soon!
It would "make sense" that you'd get them tomorrow... but of course we are talking about Montreal.

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview

My prediction for interview dates is Wednesday, May 19. It seems like the last couple of months if a person called on the 3rd Friday of the month, the interview date had been assigned 2 days earlier (I only let myself call once a week, I couldn't bear, the "no interview date" mumbo jumbo from the operator). Soon, very soon, interview dates are coming!

In March, they assigned interviews on wednesday the 17th (I remember because I missed it by one day!! ;) ), and in April, it was on the 16th. I had called early on Friday and was told no interview, and julesrose called later the same day and the interviews had been assigned.
So I would bet money this coming week is the week! Good luck guys!
It would be nice to start seeing a pattern in Montreal so people actually have something to base themselves on.

I'm really not sure. The first time I called they said "you are elageble for a interview but a date has not been set" then the next time I called all I asked was if an interview date has been set and the lady told me no. I have no idea what being "logged in" means. Do you have any idea??? I know for sure that my p3 got to montreal on april 9th. thats about all I know. I hate calling people so I dont call DOS everyday.

If they said you are eligible, that means they received your P3 and logged it. It means you are officially waiting for your interview date.

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview

Hey everyone, I hope everyone had a good weekend. Each day that goes by is one day closer to ending this long journey, so that's a positive.

I have my medical on Wednesday in Toronto, so whoever is after me I will sum up the process for us, for reassurance Posted Image

And one quick question, I don't know about you guys, but to get my vaccination records from my doctor has been a hassle, so after much bickering (they are so lazy) I finally get it tomorrow, but they are not going to print out a record, they are just going to fill in a Immunization Record card. It's a small yellow panflet that says Immunization Record, and the vaccinations documented will be hand written, do you guys think this will be fine?

That's what I'll be bringing to the medical. From what I understand, the panel physician will then fill out a form indicating that I had the required vaccines or that I received them that day.

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview

Good Morning everyone!
So I figured I'll call Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week... Last batch of interviews were given around the 16th of April, so hopefully we'll have news this week... This is getting hard waiting around for interview dates when we're so close to the goal! It feels longer than even before!!! Oh, well, let's keep positive!

Wishing, I hope you're having a good visit with your fiancé, how long is he here for?

And also, you posted a question about vaccinations, and to go along with it, I'm wondering this:
If you are missing vaccines from the list, do you need to get your personal doctor to give them to you, or will the doctor at Medysis give it to you???

Ahhhh, I hope someone has an answer for me!!!

Have a good week everyone and I'll keep you posted tomorrow, in case I do have an interview date.

Hey there!! Good luck this week! Im hoping you guys will get your interview dates by the weekend!

As per the vaccines, if you are missing some, they will give them to you at the medical at Medisys, but you could save money by getting them done ahead of time by a regular doctor.

Mummm, maybe someone can add to that, but I didn't send any pictures yet. I just downloaded the one for the form online (DS-something). In the embassy info section, they have a list of what to bring to the consulate... And passport pictures are to bring to the interview. You'll need some for the medical interview as well.

Quick question for you though... What are evidence of domicile? We need that for K-1 visas? And what's immunization?

Immunization is your proof of vaccinations (Im bringing my carnet de santé to the medical, then I imagine we will have a more official form of proof of immunization from that).

Im thinking might as well have some proof of domicile either way (for him and me). It's so easy to bring and one less thing to stress about.

Yeah, I was thinking that too after I posted that, I was like : 'man wouldn't that be nice if it was logged and had an interview date on the same day!'... But I'll call next Friday I think to see if it's been logged, so someone can go ahead and call tomorrow to see if there's any interview dates yet!

Keep us posted!!!

Ok so I just called, and no interview. At least it was the quickest call to DoS ever. It rang 5 seconds.

And FYI I didnt ask for signature at delivery. It got there the next morning and I was logged in the next week.

So, who do we have here waiting for an interview?

AandB - P3 logged
Starshine - P3 logged
Kizza - P3 logged
Crazyg49 - P3 logged

Usually in canada the police cert is valid for 6 months, and the consulate actually considers it valid for 1 year.

What is everyone else here doing about the medical? are you guys waiting for the p4 to make a appointment?

Holy sh***...
I just completed everything for the P3, and my head feels like it's gonna spilt in half! It all went well, uploading the picture and everything - thanks for the tip about cropping it though Posted Image! I am just a little concerned about the question on the online form: how long to you intend to stay? What kind of trick question is that!!!??? I wanted to put down forever, but I had no idea what to do! I ended up writing 3 years because I'll have to come back to Quebec then to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary...

Do you guys think that'll be ok if I wrote down 3 years???

Gosh... I hope they're not gonna make a big deal out of it...

But at least it's all done and ready to be sent priority tomorrow...

totally normal.... I live in Montreal, 15 minutes away from the consulate. In my case, they said they sent it the 1st of March, stamp showed they sent it the 5th, got it the following Monday, the 8th. You just can't tell when it actually leaves the mailroom at the consulate.
Im sure you will get it soon. Probably Monday.

I couldn't send the online application if i didn't upload the picture. I couldn't have the whole form to print either... I heard some people did too, but i don't know how. Anyways, you go to a walmart or another place where you can have them take an american passport picture, it doesn't take very long, like 5 minutes, and you have the picture. It's better that way, at least you're 100% sure it will work out! Posted Image

Hey there,

Im not a November filer, but I sure am waiting for an interview.

I heard that browsers like firefox only print the first 3 pages. It took me hours to fill in the form ds-160, and had to upgrade Internet Explorer to version 8. It did work in the end, accepted my photo, but I got a lot of error and run-time messages before it did. Save your file often.

At the end, you get the option to print the whole form, print the confirmation page, or email the confirmation page, which I did, just in case. But I think this is your one chance to print the whole form.

Im not a 100% sure yet, but I'm thinking we'll be doing it at Windsor/Detroit.... I don't remember reading many review about it. It's probably called something else and I never realised it was the same one.

My fiance' has a tiny one bedroom basement apartment. A true bachelor with not a lot of stuff so it was pretty easy for him to pack it up. That and he isn't bringing most of his living room and kitchen furniture so it won't take up much space on the ABF trailer either.

I'm not bringing much furniture either. Just lots of books and lots vinyls... and a lot of other miscellanous stuff. Somehow it makes a lot of boxes still.

When Jay flew into MTL i was hoping he'd get hassled a little ( is that wrong of me?) I think i have only gone through once where they didnt make me want to cry. As soon as he mentioned he was going to the US consulate the conversation was over. I'm just hoping my POE goes smoothly, i'm a big baby and dont take border crossing well. LOL.

Well, that is good to hear on Jennie. She said they have a ticket for the 30th of May i think.

I hope the POE goes well for you and me both! (providing I get approved first of course).
I always feel super nervous even though I shouldnt have any reason to.

Yeah... I got harassed at the border before and it's no fun. When I got denied entry, they frisked me and threatened to put me in jail for the night if I missed my flight home, and I was glad Matt was there to hear it, in some weird way. lol Kind of for him to see I wasnt exagerating when I was saying they made me feel like a criminal. He got hassled a little bit the first time he came to Montreal, but nothing that bad.

i think if both can attend there is no better proof of your relationship than the person being there. Like i mentioned before they asked him more questions than me.

No one has heard from Jennie yet?

Bev, i have seen people call their congressperson and things seem to move much faster. If i were you i'd call the DOS this week and if they tell you the same thing I'd be calling the congressperson.

That's what I think too. And Matt has dealt with border officials with me before and it helped. I think he exhudes honesty!

I was curious about Jennie and saw she posted a question in the AOS forum mentioning she was moving to michigan in a few days... So I guess she was approved.
