K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow to pass the time?

On my own, I try to do things that feel constructive towards my move there (like sorting through my stuff). Also I take classes with activities that truly distract me. While Im so focused, I stop thinking about how much I miss my fiancé and about all the stress that comes from the process. Great escape...

Matt finally got a webcam, and it has changed everything. We get to actually hang out together. Often at night he will watch tv while I read my book, and we both have our computer next to us. I love hearing his tv in the background or his silly laugh when there is something funny on tv.

We've had drinks together on Friday nights (it did feel silly at first to be toasting to the computer, but it's such a fun night!).

We've also tried to watch movies together, by renting the same film... but it is tricky to sync so you don't hear an echo.

Of course it not the same as being together and holding each other, but I love our evenings together. There's something really comforting about them.

When you got to watch a movie or TV show together what I've found helpful is use Skype, but then plug in headphones... so you can still hear the show and each others reaction but you don't have to be 100% perfect when it comes to syncing the timing... every week we watch the shows that we have in common, this is some good quality time where you don't have to worry about coming up with new topics of conversation, you just relax and watch TV together (we have a website we go to, www.surfthechannel.com for all of our TV shows) it's wonderful!

Nice, thanks! I'll check out that site, since I dont get tv and do miss watching some shows.
I dont think I can put headphones while watching movies... I'd have to plug them in the tv, across the room! wink.gif

What about for interview dates? Like most, interview dates are scheduled a month out? I put mine into the system as soon as it was assigned...

hmmm... good point. I bet you could allow future dates in some fields and not in others.

Here's a thought?

Harry the offenders, but nicely, and ask them to reform their dates.

I have done that and people have changed the date; they probably just entered the date wrong.

But in the case of people who join, enter a date to figure out how long the process will take and never come back, not much can be done.

QUOTE (Kayla*Mathew @ Nov 10 2009, 05:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
But if you were to do this thing, would it allow you to enter past dates? My guess probably not. It would have to be +/-2 days and that`s it. But of course, I know nothing in this area is just seems that way to me. But then if someone were to get their NOA2 while they were on vacation and couldn`t get to a computer for a week or more, then they`d be locked out and not able to update their timeline.

But I agree wholeheartedly. It`s so annoying I can`t stand it when I see a future dated timeline. I may have gotten my NOA2, but Igor`s List needs to be cleaned up big time.

No, I think it would be easy enough to allow you to enter past dates but not future dates... Like for people who find out about VJ and join later in the process etc.

More I-129F Filers gone Amok - Do they have a crystal ball?

They love to project - Should Igor have a list for months that we have yet to begin?
Some (2) are putting in December dates.

There are 9 people currently anticipating their I-129F filing in the future in the timeline database.

Maybe they don't know that timeline entries can be initiated WITHOUT putting in a date for the I-129F mailing.

I wonder if some are just trying to get an idea of how long the process would take if they filed.

When I first filled in my timeline in September, I noticed a couple had already entered a sent date & a NOA1 date for later in the month. Never checked until recently, but I realised the other day these people havent been seen on VJ since April!! I know you can come and check out the forums without logging in, but this means they filled in their timeline 5 months ahead of their predicted "send date".

I wonder if it would be hard to make it impossible for people to enter future dates.

From a programming point of view it may present a few challenges,
depending on how the program allows changes, but it shouldn't be too hard.

If the admins want to they can; they are definitely aware, as you can see from this thread.

Not many have posted here as this is a marginal issue for most people (it doesn't concern their case),
but you can see by the number of hits that there is a wide interest in this problem.

The way the database works is fairly straightforward.
Currently it won't allow a date that isn't real (past, present or future): example - 31 February 2010 will be rejected.

The date is entered into what is called a "field" - a column that has a heading that says this date is for X purpose: "I-129F Sent"
The programmer can say "we will allow dates in this field that are real" - that's a function called something like {any valid date}.
You can also say you will allow {current date or earlier}+2 days. That's my basic suggestion, as it gives a little wiggle time for those who are really preparing their paperwork NOW,
but doesn't allow outlandish "wishful" dates only for the purpose of appearing at the top of an online listing.

Exactly what I was thinking about! and to be honest, I dont even see the point of allowing for the extra 2 days... Either you have sent it or you haven't. If you haven't, who knows what can come up on your way to the post office wink.gif

In the case of the people who put in dates 5 months in advance, they joined that day in April and were never seen again... Kind of frustrating. Im not sure how much it has a bearing on other people's predicted timelines, but surely it tweaks the stats a little. Of course, one could argue I should get a life and stop spending so much time on Igor's list... whistling.gif

QUOTE (Ben loves Yuki @ Jan 3 2008, 08:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey guys! I had my interview on the 3rd at the US consulate in Hong kong. I came to the immigrant visa unit room at about 8.45am. I handed in all the documents to a local officer and then he told me to have a seat and wait. I was first interviewed by a local lady. She asked me who applied the petition for me, how I meet my fiance, what does he do, why I want to marry him, what our marriage plan is, what common interests we have, what I worked and studyed before.. actually she asked me about our ages mostly, because she said "do you think it is too early for you two to get married?" I am 18 and my fiance is 19, and then I told her that my sister got married even earlier, so she went "oh, did your whole family get married early?" I said I think so and then we both smiled. laughing.gif And she continued to ask what my parents and his parents think about our marriage, and that was it. And soon I was interviewed by a nice american lady in English, she asked me how and when we met, why I want to marry him, what his major is, where he goes to work.. and then she said everything was great and told me to wait a while. At last, I was called by a local lady, and she gave me back my stuff and told me to pay the postal fee and I would get my visa in a week. biggrin.gif I left the conculate at 11am. I never thought they would ask me a lot of questions, and I think if you stay calm and tell the truth, it will be fine! Good luck everyone! smile.gif

Well I finally made it to the US on my K1 and am now looking forward to our wedding!!!! I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyne who has posted here - and of course to the website co-ordinators - this is possibly the best source of information and support anywhere for anybody who is marrying a US citizen and undertaking the long and challenging Visa Journey.

I know I will be turning to Visa Journey for more advice and information as the long process of Adjustment of Status begins but just wanted to wish you all the very best of luck in your respective applications - keep strong and it will eventually happen for you too.

Congratulation ! good job~ good.gif goodluck to your outcoming process for AOS! kicking.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting your NOA1 if you have never recieved it in the mail
Hi!

The exact same thing happened to us....

When I called, I did NOT speak with the customer service crew that answers.....they only have and see as much information as we do!! I always explain what the situation is, and ask to speak with an "Agent" or "Officer". Once they come on....they are a WEALTH of information; in addition, you can right then request a new NOA1. They send a "inter-office email" to the department that handles these requests; this department then has 30 days to process the request, and they usually wait until day 29 blink.gif .....then they send the copy of the NOA1 to you. Verify with this person, that the address is correct that they sent it to......they will have that information also.

It took us 45 days to get our duplicate NOA1.......

Take care and best of luck!

Yvette

QUOTE (RobertM @ Jun 23 2008, 05:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So a while back I wrote about never recieving our NOA1. I knew the check had been cashed and the package had been recieved. I could not get our reciept number off the back of the check beacuse the image was of poor quality and there were several stamps on top of each other.

About three weeks into our wait for the NOA1, I looked up on the USCIS website how to contact them. I found a helpful PDF giving general guidelines on how to contact them, and more importantly when to contact them. It said they would not answer any questions or involve themselves unless more than 30 days had passed since the petition was submitted. Fine. I waited until 30 days had passed (actually a little more, I contacted them May 20. They recieved our petition April 15th).

Eventually I spoke with a man who told me that it could take as long as 90 days to recieve our NOA1, blah, blah, blah. But he would look up in the computer to see if our petition had been logged in yet and if we had a reciept number. Much to his surprise (at least it sounded that way on the phone smile.gif ) our case had been logged and he gave me our case number. Great. I registered online and found our case, happiness.

The fellow told me I should recieve our NOA1 in no more than 30 days. I don't think either one of us believed that. And to call if we did not recieve it. OK.

So come along last Friday (June 20) I called again (having, of course, not recieved the NOA1). I finally was able to talk to a woman, who asked her long series of questions that had nothing to do with why I was calling, but they must ask you them, in that order, blah, blah, blah. So finally she asks why I am calling. I tell her I have not recieved my NOA1. She asks me how I knew our case number. I tell her the story of talking to the guy. She says well you have everything you need since you have your reciept number and the NOA1 just says blah, blah, blah.

I tell her, yes, I understand all of that, and yes I have looked up our case online and all that is great. But my fiancee's parents are going for a Visa in September, and I would like them to have a copy of the NOA1 to show why they have reason to travel to the US, etc (no idea if this will actually help them, but I would like to do all I can to help their case).

And then she tells me since I know our case number she cannot send me a new NOA1. If I did not know our case number, she could. blink.gif

blink.gif

So since I was proactive in wanting to know about our case, I doomed ourselves to never getting a NOA1?

blink.gif

Great. That's just brilliant isn't it? I know there may be a billion reasons why they think this is a good policy (having to do with fraud I assume), but really? I can't recieve a new NOA1 beacuse I know our reciept number. So if I had made this call without knowing our reciept number, they could just tell me our reciept number and say, "Opps, you know it now, no NOA1 for you!"

blink.gif (ok , I know I have dipped into hyperbole, but really? Come on....)

So she told me I could make an appointment with Infopass to try to convince the local office to give me some sort of proof of having submitted the petition. Like a man slamming his head into the wall, knowing it will never yield, I go to the Infopass website and make me an appointment. My excitement is palpable. Can't you tell?

To be continued come July 2nd.......

So I think I'm going to try calling the NVC tomorrow to see if our petition has been approved (2 weeks since our last touch :( ) since USCIS isn' helpful. Do they require the approval date or can I just give them our names/birthdates etc?

When I called NVC, I just gave them our USCIS case number (WAC...) Then they asked me for the beneficiary's birthdate, etc. If it has reached them, that's all they'll need to find it. Good luck!

So, 2 weeks ago I sent an email to my senator's office asking for help with my case. Today I got an email from one of his assistants telling me "I learned that your petition was approved two weeks ago and that the “validity dates” are from May 1, 2007 to August 31, 2007. The records show that you’re approval notice hasn’t gone out so I emailed California USCIS and asked them to do that pronto."

So infuriating, that I've been worrying and freaking out, and it was approved the whole time! But it's still such good news. Now I have to figure out if it's made it to NVC... I'm on hold as I type

Best wishes to everyone still waiting. Len and How, and others touched weeks ago who haven't heard, it's probably worth it to get on the phone and see if yours was in the same pile that went MIA!

Don't cry Sarah. I warned you cause I knew it would be hard. I also warned you about checking every day and driving yourself crazy. Even with all the support from here, there, and everywhere, sometimes it is better to step back for a while and not focus on the waiting. You will survive it and you will be fine. Just hang in there.
